    THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION, WILL BE BASED ON WHETHER OR NOT GRANT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE. New employees typically start at step 1 of the pay scale ($24.50/hour). The mission of the District Attorney's Office is to seek justice through: * Promoting accountability for criminal offenders. * Interpreting, enforcing and executing law. * Responding to the concerns of victims and the public; and * Working cooperatively with members of the justice system. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Provides direct services to victims of crime including child sexual abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Keeps victims informed of their rights, how to exercise them, and provides updates on the criminal justice system as it pertains to their case. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under supervision of the Victim Assistance Program Manager, who assigns work, sets goals and reviews for conformance to policy and procedures. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. This position provides services to monolingual Spanish-speaking individuals; therefore, fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required. Provide direct advocacy to victims of crime as assigned by case managers and program director. Direct advocacy includes: * Safety planning. * Explanation of victims' rights and assistance asserting victims' rights. * Explanation and assistance filing Crime Victims Compensation applications. * Crisis counseling. * Assistance with protective orders process. * Communicate by speaking, writing, and reading in English and Spanish. * Criminal justice advocacy. * Court accompaniment. * Accompaniment to Grand Jury. * Information, referral, and assistance connecting with resources. * Assistance with victim impact statements. * Emergency legal advocacy. * Emergency financial assistance. * Sexual assault response. * Assist victims who call in or walk into the victim assistance office. Maintain case files, data for grant requirements, case calendar, staffing and complete monthly reports. Attend and participate in staff meetings, volunteer activities and trainings. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING * Associate degrees in criminal justice, social science, social work or related field; AND * One year of victim advocacy experience; OR * Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS * This position provides services to monolingual Spanish-speaking individuals; therefore, fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required. An additional 5% will be added to the hourly wage as compensation for this skill. Finalist will be required to pass a verbal and written Standardized Spanish/English Fluency Assessment as part of the hiring process. * Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business. You will be responsible for all aspects of discovery, which includes preparing and serving discovery requests, summarizing discovery responses, and identifying and obtaining all documents needed to complete discovery.
