Job Description
Neal R. Gross and Co. is a leading Court Reporting and Transcription services company based out of the Washington, DC area with work across the country. Our clients include local, state and federal courts, the House of Representatives, Department of Defense and clients in the private sector. We are looking for experienced Court Reporters to work on a contract basis to visit client sites in their local area. You will use specialized equipment to create an accurate record of proceedings in numerous places including legal courts, non-profit board rooms, and depositions. We are very flexible and looking for candidates that can work anywhere from a few jobs a month to 2-3 per week.
Location: IN-PERSON - client sites in your local area
Takes down the proceeding using Machine Shorthand, Voice, or Digital capture
Capture verbatim proceedings of courts, meetings, depositions, and hearings
Administer oaths and participate in depositions, hearings, and other legal proceedings
Transport, set up, and operate equipment to capture the record accurately
Perform advance preparation for assignments, including building job worksheets, reviewing case information, and ensuring proper hardware setup
Ensure all exhibits are secured, proper file backups are performed, and required worksheets are completed and uploaded at the close of the proceeding
Maintain all required reports and logs and respond promptly to communications
Represent NRGCO professionally in all proceedings and interactions
Interact with high-level clients (Federal Govt, State Govt, Private Industry)
Requirements
PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED | NO training is provided

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates applying for this position must have at least Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting and hold the certification as a National Court Reports Association (NCRA) Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent (i.e., certified by the state of performance, another appropriate licensure, certification, or proof of education). Proper credentials must be provided within one week upon request of the client.
Requires accurately reporting (taking down steno) legal proceedings at speeds of 225 words per minute and translating takedown from steno to English.
Working knowledge of legal and medical terminology, correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and theories and principles of basic mathematics.
Knowledge and understanding of laws, rules, and regulations governing court reporting profession and transcription activities, policies, and procedures. Ability to use court reporting and transcription equipment. Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology.
Compliance with professional standards of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). Maintaining exhibits and documentary evidence. Communicating effectively with counsel, coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates applying for this position must have at least Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting and hold the certification as a National Court Reports Association (NCRA) Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent (i.e., certified by the state of performance, another appropriate licensure, certification, or proof of education). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates applying for this position must have a high school diploma or equivalency and a minimum of Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting. High school diploma or GED required; completion of required apprentice and internship training in court reporting, and sufficient course work to obtain certification as a professional court reporter from a recognized licensing or accrediting Agency or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LOCATION
: Work shall be conducted at or in proximity to and within 50 miles radius of Norfolk, Virginia (There may be specific instances where services must be provided at locations in the surrounding Hampton Roads area, including Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg/James City County). The majority of proceedings will be conducted at the Agency's offices located in Norfolk, Virginia, but testimony may also be recorded in other Agency-designated business offices, Agency designated workspaces onboard USS/USNS ships, or located at EEO/MSPB or another court/tribunal spaces. There may be specific instances where the Court Reporter will have to provide services at locations in the surrounding Hampton. The ProSidian Court Reporter must be flexible and able to provide a Court Reporter at any of these locations.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Concentration: Court Reporters s must be able to concentrate for long periods. They must remain focused on the dialogue they are recording, even in the presence of auditory distractions.
Detail Oriented: Court Reporters must be able to produce error-free work because they create transcripts that serve as legal records.
Listening Skills: Court Reporters s must give their full attention to speakers and capture every word that is said.
Writing skills. Court Reporter s need a good command of grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Physical Requirements: Successful candidate must be able to (with or without accommodation): (1) bend, (2) pull, push, and lift to 20 pounds, (3) reach, (4) walk, (5) stand and sit for extended periods. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY
Candidates must be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
Candidates must be competent, efficient, and have the experience, necessary training, and education in Court Reporting with adequate and appropriate equipment to produce accurate, timely, appropriately bound, and indexed transcribed testimony from witnesses. In addition, candidates must be punctual and present at relevant proceedings, demonstrate a professional demeanor, and provide all the necessary equipment and materials to perform their duties and accomplish the deliverables.
Candidates must be proficient in English in order to read portions of the transcript during the proceedings at the request of the board or other presiding body and, if asked, clarify inaudible statements.
Candidates who have experience with the Administrative Investigation Board (AIB) process, Equal Opportunity Hearing, Human Resources Management Merit System Protection Board (MSPB), or arbitration hearings are preferred.
Candidates must be competent to administer oaths. Depositions shall be transcribed by a duly authorized notary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates applying for this position must have a high school diploma or equivalency and a minimum of Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting. High school diploma or GED required; completion of required apprentice and internship training in court reporting, and sufficient course work to obtain certification as a professional court reporter from a recognized licensing or accrediting Agency or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Professional certification as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) issued through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) administered through the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA)
Certification by the Board of Court Reporting of the Judicial Council of The State Of Virginia
NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification if your state does not offer a license
Certified Shorthand Reporters (CSR) license, where applicable
Real-time certification through NCRA or other certifying body
Notary license held
Valid driver's license
U.S. Citizenship Required - You must be a United States Citizen
Excellent oral and written communication skills (This employer participates in the e-Verify program)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, & Adobe)

TRAVEL: Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, events, site visits, or other training requirements. Travel within 50 miles radius of Norfolk, Virginia (There may be specific instances where services must be provided at locations in the surrounding Hampton Roads area, including Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg/James City County. Travel is coordinated with the technical point of contact and, approved in writing by the Contracting Officer in advance, is allowed in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.
LOCATION: Work shall be conducted at or in proximity to and within 50 miles radius of Norfolk, Virginia (There may be specific instances where services must be provided at locations in the surrounding Hampton Roads area, including Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg/James City County). The majority of proceedings will be conducted at the Agency's offices located in Norfolk, Virginia, but testimony may also be recorded in other Agency-designated business offices, Agency designated workspaces onboard USS/USNS ships, or located at EEO/MSPB or another court/tribunal spaces. There may be specific instances where the Court Reporter will have to provide services at locations in the surrounding Hampton. The ProSidian Court Reporter must be flexible and able to provide a Court Reporter at any of these locations.
