The duties of this job will include managing civil and criminal cases, researching legal issues, drafting orders, preparing case files for hearings and trials, preparing and sending correspondence, responding to inquiries from attorneys and others, scheduling case-related meetings, and interacting with staff members throughout the judiciary.
A law clerk is also responsible for performing some clerical/administrative duties.
The caseload in the jurisdiction is heavy, and the types of cases presented are varied.
At times, the cases present novel or complex issues of law.
Managing the workload requires organizational skills, great attention to detail, and well-developed research, writing, and analytical skills.

Qualifications
The recent law student graduates MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree(LLB or JD). The recent law student graduate MUST provide proof they have passed the State Bar, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of the U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
Applicants must have completed their first law degree (LLB or JD) from a qualifying educational institution and all bar requirements within the previous two years or will complete these requirements by 1 May 2025 to meet the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program.
Additionally, to be qualified as a GS-11, the attorney must also meet one of the following:- One year of professional law experience; or

This is a hands-on position that involves working collaboratively with clients and employees of the firm.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under attorney direction drafts and prepares correspondence and other written documents as required including responses, reports, filings, pleadings, answers, motions, interrogatories, contracts, opinions, position papers, letters, etc., and other documents as necessary.
Monitors files and escalates issues requiring attorney involvement. Performs timely handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to case.
Assist attorneys in all aspects of litigation, including but not limited to, digital dictation, scheduling, electronic filing, and maintaining files.
Maintains calendar for trial and discovery deadlines. Obtains trial settings, coordinates and assist in preparation.
Answers incoming phone calls and routes to proper person.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
2+ years of prior legal assistant experience supporting litigators in civil defense in a high-volume, fast-paced law firm environment.
Strong working knowledge in area of specialization (insurance defense and general liability).
FL State and Federal Court filing including E-Filing experience.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
Ability to use dictation software and machine.
Solid analytical and drafting skills.
Requires critical thinking skills, superior communication and organizational skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
High School Diploma or its equivalent required.
Physical Demands
This position is considered to be mostly sedentary and will require the employee to sit for extended periods of time. Compensation:
For a full-time permanent appointment, the annual base salary is $55,00 and total compensation inclusive of the benefits listed above is valued at a minimum of $77,947. Actual total compensation will vary based on insurance and retirement elections.

The Public Defender's Office has protected the Constitution and the rights of Florida citizens since the landmark Supreme Court case, Gideon v. Wainwright.
