Responsibilities Law clerks assist attorneys with providing legal technical assistance and developing tools and educational materials on public health law topics, with primary focus areas varying by region/project. The Harm Reduction Legal Project (the Project) Law Clerk will focus on our work addressing legal and policy barriers that impede the establishment and expansion of evidence-based harm reduction measures such as naloxone distribution, syringe access programs, and access to evidence-based substance use disorder treatment. The Project provides guidance and consultation to governmental and nongovernmental organizations as well as impacted individuals to assist them in navigating the often extremely confusing maze of existing laws and regulations that hamper harm reduction initiatives. The Project also creates non-partisan, evidence-based publications and training regarding the state of laws impacting individuals who use drugs, individuals in recovery, and their communities, as well as research regarding the impact of those laws. The position will consist of research, legal analysis, and strategic guidance to a) providers attempting to operate within existing laws and b) advocates seeking to modify or remove legal restrictions on harm reduction initiatives.     POSITION: Farmworker Legal Services (FLS) is seeking Spanish bilingual summer law clerks to join its team for the Summer of 2026. The positions are supported and based out of our Kalamazoo office with possibilities of a flexible remote work schedule or work out of our Grand Rapids or Ypsilanti (Ann Arbor) office. The tentative timeline for the positions begin in May 2026 and can be adjusted based on availability and office needs. FLS is a non- profit and encourages applicants to apply for outside funding (e.g. school fellowships, Equal Justice America), but FLS has paid internships available. WHO WE ARE:Farmworker Legal Services (FLS) is a nonprofit, public interest law office that provides free civil legal services to indigent migrant and seasonal agricultural workers throughout Michigan and engages in a wide variety of advocacy with state and federal agencies. FLS attorneys litigate complex wage and hour, multi-party employment discrimination, and human trafficking cases in Michigan state and federal courts and provide representation in other matters such as T or U-visa applications for victims of employment-based crimes, housing, workers compensation, public benefits, or unemployment administrative proceedings. FLS is the largest migrant legal services program in the Midwest with four attorneys, two paralegals, a legal assistant, and 4 to 6 summer staff each year. FLS is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which works to advance the safety, independence, and economic stability of those most affected by poverty, racism, and other structurally oppressive systems by increasing access to justice and working for systemic solutions. RESPONSIBILITIES: Law Clerks can expect a highly educational, challenging, and rewarding experience as they work with FLS staff and Michigans farmworker population at the intersection of their employment and immigration cases. Clerks will handle cases involving impact litigation, employment rights, and immigration relief. Clerks should expect to gain experience drafting pleadings and written discovery, conducting legal research, attending court hearings or depositions, assessing legal problems, and conveying legal advice through oral and written communication.     Compensation: $18.67/hour Part-time/Full-time, Temporary Position The National Center for Lesbian Rights is seeking law clerks to assist with all aspects of its national impact litigation, public policy, and educational work. Much of the clerk's time will be devoted to interacting with members of the community who contact NCLR's legal information helpline and handling their questions from start to finish under the supervision and training of NCLR staff attorneys. Clerks also conduct case research, update publications, and draft memos on a wide range of issues affecting LGBTQ people and their families. Summer clerks work full time, and semester clerks may work full or part-time (minimum 12 hours per week). This is a remote work position, and clerks may work from anywhere in the U.S. NCLR hires law clerks for the summer as well as the fall and spring semesters. Benefits This position does provide sick leave accrual, but no other leave or benefits. NCLR will provide you with a laptop for the duration of your law clerk position. However, you are expected to provide your own internet connection for all job expectations and provided assignments.
