Our client, a leading Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a Legal Secretary to provide administrative and client service support to attorneys, practice groups, and clients. What You'll Do
Provide consistent in-office support to foster collaboration, cross-training, and peer-level assistance
Manage and coordinate legal practice tasks, projects, and administrative functions
Handle billing-related tasks, time and expense entry, new matter openings, and client meeting coordination
Draft, edit, and file legal documents and correspondence with courts and agencies
Maintain client materials within the document management system
Support the client billing process, including proofreading, task code application, rate changes, write-offs, and expense reporting
Assist attorneys with managing legal and administrative practices, ensuring superior client service
Manage scheduling, presentations, and reporting for attorneys and practice groups
Provide flexibility and adaptability in handling additional assignments and special projects as needed

The Position

Key Responsibilities:
Draft and send routine correspondence
Prepare legal filings: format, proofread, redact, rename, PDF documents
E-file court filings in various State and Federal courts
Open new matters / process matters for closing

Schedule conferences and depositions, maintain attorney calendars
Manage bills for third party vendors, prepare check requests and follow up on vendor payments
Qualifications
Must have 4+ years Defense Litigation experience, insurance defense experience a plus
Must have prior experience with litigation procedures and processes
Must be familiar with drafting, preparing, and formatting of pleadings
Experience with filing briefs, TOC and TOA a plus
Must have familiarity with State and Federal court procedures and rules, and experience filing documents in both courts
Ability to work in a team-based setting with other legal staff supporting a group of attorneys and provide backup support to all Secretaries when necessary
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to integrate into a fast-paced environment
Excellent typing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office 2013 (Word, Outlook, Excel)

About you and this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal located in Midland, MI.
In this role, you will provide paralegal support on a wide range of legal topics, across all legal practice areas (excluding Litigation), as a member of the Core Legal Practices team with emphasis on demonstrated competencies such as work ethic; interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork, communication, collaboration, and collegiality; initiative and judgment; interconnected thinking and action; and agility and continuous learning.
Responsibilities
Provide paralegal services across a wide range of subject matters, including multiple types of agreements, powers of attorney, external information releases, and more.
Review incoming client requests, proactively assess such requests for gaps or legal risk, and apply work process standards to complete such requests. Take initiative to ask follow-up questions when requests are ambiguous or lack key details or documents. “Know what you don't know” and refer requests, as necessary, and/or in keeping with work process instructions. Utilize a combination of standards, context, experience, critical thinking, and judgment to achieve best outcomes.
Communicate timely and professionally, and with critical thinking, common sense, anticipation, and empathy, to support easy, enjoyable, and effective experiences with internal and external stakeholders.
Meet or exceed committed turnaround times and positively impact metrics for the team, department, and Company.

Required Qualifications
A minimum of an associate's degree OR 5 years of relevant working experience OR 3 years or more of relevant military training/experience.
Ability to work in-office/on-site in Midland, MI, at least 4 business days per week. This is not a remote role.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience, competence, and proficiency in contract/agreement processing, reviewing, reading for comprehension, summarizing, proposing, drafting, negotiating, redlining, amending, and utilizing defined terms, among other agreement work competencies. Interviewing candidates should expect to participate in short exercises to demonstrate skills in these areas.
Substantive experience in an agreement-focused role (e.g., legal, real estate, banking, or other contract work).
Experience working in a corporate legal department.
Experience in contract lifecycle management (CLM), specifically, drafting/negotiating/redlining within a CLM system.
