The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis in various regions of the body. Education, License & Cert: High school with additional skills training (certification) required. Certification Required: RDMS (preferred) or ARRT with specialized certification in Sonography required, cannot be certification eligible.
Experience:
Minimum of three months (RDMS).
Essential Functions:
Performs the scanning examination requested by the referring physician, modifying the examination, depending upon on the findings demonstrated, and review the examination with the supervising Radiologist if necessary.
Assists the Radiologist or the clinician in special procedures such as percutaneous fluid aspiration or biopsy procedures when performed in the department or in Interventional Radiology.
Performs routine equipment checks for resolution and other quality control procedures, as necessary.
Must be able to react quickly to emergency situations such as patient fainting, patient being unsteady while getting on to scanning table, if unsafe situation occurs (such as a fire), getting patient to safety and sounding alarm.
Ability to work alone on shift or on call and perform the job done with confidence in your abilities and in an efficient manner.
Must be able to lift, push, reach, bend, stop and walk in order to care for patients. Must be able to perform a stand‐pivot transfer with a patient.
Must be able to maintain composure during procedures or exams with potential colostomy or draining wounds, as well as working with patients with various conditions such as Hepatitis, Meningitis or those with isolation precautions.
Other Duties:
Verifies images and reports of exam and sends to PACS.
Maintains an inventory of coupling agent, drugs and other supplies and requisitions and materials, as needed.
Obtains sterile instruments, as needed, and returns them to central supply for sterilization and storage.
Teaches ultrasound technique to student technologists and completes appropriate paperwork.
Demonstrates willingness to accept non‐routine work assignments, as appropriate.
Must be able to work a variety of shifts and be in the call rotation on a scheduled basis, along with on evenings/overnights and weekends. Hospital observed holidays are not required to be covered by Per Diem UltrasoundTechnologists, however they may volunteer to cover if desired.
Able to be on call and in the department within 45 minutes after being called for a procedure.
Must be able to sit or stand for a prolonged period of time in performing the ordered examination (usually 30‐60 minutes for each patient).
Performs high level disinfection process according to policy/procedures.

**Position Summary:**
The Mammography/Breast UltrasoundTechnologist is responsible for the independent operation of mammographic and sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations. This includes providing services on weekends, holidays, and other times as determined by management. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
+ Receives requests, checking for special instructions from the requesting physicians; consults with Radiologists as necessary.
+ Greets patients and actively identifies patient to ensure correct patient and procedure.
+ Explains procedure to patient and family.

Produces diagnostic images using ultrasound equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and for interventional procedures.
Essential Job Functions
Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure.

Selects appropriate ultrasound equipment and scanning techniques based on the age and size of the patient and the objective of the exam to optimize the procedure and minimize patient exposure to acoustic energy.
Obtains optimum images during scan.
Adjusts as needed to better visualize the anatomy or pathology according to established protocols and guidelines.
Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist.
Acts based on patient and procedural variances.
Notifies appropriate healthcare provider when immediate clinical response is necessary based on findings and patient condition.

What You'll Bring:
The skills and education we need are:
Completion of formal Ultrasound training in an AMA approved school, and meeting the requirements for registry by ARDMS
RDMS/RVT required
Understanding and ability to follow MD protocols for procedures
Ability to effectively operate all pieces of equipment utilized within the scope of this job
Prior experience with fertility patients strongly preferred
Minimum of two years of experience as an ultrasoundtechnologist in women's health
