Lenape High School company history timeline

1955

HISTORY The Lenape District was authorized by a proposal adopted by referendum on September 20, 1955.

1957

Eighteen months later, on March 21, 1957, 53 acres of land at the intersection of Church and Hartford roads in Medford Township were purchased as a site to accommodate Lenape High School.

1957” is in black and recognizes the founding date of Lenape.

1958

Lenape High School opened in September 1958, before which students from Medford, Medford Lakes and Tabernacle Township had attended Rancocas Valley Regional High School.

1961

As a result of the continuing population growth of the district, in July 1961 an addition to the original building was begun.

However, this would bring about a reorganization of the school system into a six-three-three system (six years elementary school, three years junior high, three years senior high). In 1961, this reorganization marked the beginning of a new era for Lenape Junior High School.

1962

Lenape’s Alma Mater In the spring of 1962, the melody and poem of our Alma Mater were written by two Lenape students.

1971

The school was named Shawnee and opened in the southeastern end of Medford Township on November 1, 1971.

1975

By September 1975, a third high school, Cherokee, had been built on a 71 – acre tract at Tomlinson Mill and Willow Bend roads in Evesham Township.

1980

During the 1980’s, the overall district population still continued to grow.

1997

In December 1997, with enrollment soaring toward the 7000 mark, voters in all eight communities overwhelmingly approved a fourth high school in Tabernacle and an addition to Cherokee High School in Evesham.

2001

The addition, Cherokee South, which includes a spectacular 1500 seat performing arts center, was dedicated in the fall of 2001.

2003

On September 14, 2003, the Lenape District dedicated its fourth high school, Seneca, which opened its doors to the children of the Pinelands communities on Tuesday, Sept.

2008

Students, starting in the fall of 2008, attended classes based on the letter of the day.
