Job Summary and Qualifications
Prepares patients, collects relevant information for completion of procedures.
Performs all Sonographic exams following defined protocols.
Observant of patients' conditions. Notifies physician or supervisor of unusual occurrences. Compiles appropriate records to expedite results.
Analyzes the quality of images and processes as required.
Understands and operates electronic information systems.
Maintains appropriate supplies and a clean, organized working environment.
Participates in continuing education activities to expand/enhance knowledge of sonography and meet educational requirements of ARDMS.
Takes call after regular hours.
Registered or registry eligible by RDMS or ARRT.
What qualifications you will need:
EXPERIENCE
Preferred: 2-3 Years experience as a RT or Sonographer
Preferred: 2 or more years of experience in a hospital Ultrasound Department.
EDUCATION
Required: ARDMS eligible.
Preferred: BLS Certification Preferred
Required: ARDMS certification.
Hours: Full time, mixed shifts (weekdays only)
Monday-Thursday 10:30am-9pm with rotating call and holidays

City/State Harrisonburg, VA Work Shift First (Days) Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital is hiring an Echocardiographer for the Cardiac service line non-invasive lab. This is a full time, day shift position in Harrisonburg, Va. Sign on Bonus of up to $20,000 for qualified candidates.
Hours: Monday - Friday, day shift, with call every 7th week to include the weekend. The echocardiographer is off the preceding Friday and following Monday of their call weekend. The Echocardiographer must live within a 30-minute drive of the hospital for call purposes.
An Echocardiographer, also known as a cardiac sonographer, specializes in performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the heart. These professionals work closely with cardiologists to evaluate heart structures, functions, and blood flow, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.
The Sentara RMH Medical Center echocardiography lab is considered high volume with close to 9,500 procedures performed annually. The lab works closely with our invasive cardiology (structural heart, electrophysiology, diagnostic/interventional cath) and cardiothoracic surgery services.Each Team member is expected to perform about 7 exams per day. Specific exams include: adult 2D and 3D transthoracic and transesophageal echo, myocardial strain, contrast (DEFINITY), agitated saline (bubble study), exercise stress echo and dobutamine stress echo. Preliminary reports are generated in ProSolv (Structured Report SW Application). Clinical equipment include state of the art Philips Epic ultrasound systems and EPIC (electronic medical record). Both inpatient and outpatient echo services are located on the Sentara RMH Medical Center main campus within the non-invasive cardiology lab.

Cardiac Sonographer is accountable for the preparation of preliminary interpretation reports for echocardiograms, billing procedures, study transmittal and coverage of satellite sites.
* ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Performs echocardiograms in accordance with lab standards while meeting daily volume expectations. Responds to emergent exams is a timely manner. Follows department workflows for reporting, billing and standard daily performance.
* Ensures patient care is provided in clean, safe, quiet, and secure environment. Renders excellent patient care to patients and families. All hospital related interactions are courteous and confidential and in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to deliver developmental and age-appropriate care to patients.
* Participates in staff meetings, research studies, quality assurance activities and working groups. Cooperates and assists in obtaining institutional, divisional and departmental initiatives and goals.
* Assists in the teaching of students and new technicians.
* Assesses ultrasound images for identification of problem areas for focused review of images and data.
* Oversees the daily operation of echocardiograph services and equipment.
* Assists with creating and updating policies and procedures related to echocardiography.
* Ensures continuing education requirements are met.
* Demonstrates knowledge of noninvasive cardiac diagnostic testing as well as operation and maintenance of equipment including electrocardiograms and holter/event monitor application.
* Participates in call coverage
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
* Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required or registry eligible and obtainment of registration within 12 months of employment.
* RDCS (PE) certification by the ARDMS is highly preferred.
* Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult Echocardiography by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry eligible and obtainment of registration within 90 days of hire.
* MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
* Completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasound program (Bachelors or Associates Degree). In lieu of degree, will consider high school diploma or equivalent with applicable experience.

Sonographer Job Responsibilities:
Assists physicians in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique.
Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams, takes appropriate action to resolve them and produces the most desirable outcomes.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of intravenous (IV) heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Sonography. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards.
Correctly identifies patients and their files by ensuring a high degree of accuracy. Identifies errors and takes immediate action for corrections. Tracks patients according to department procedures.
Participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings.
Sonographer Additional Requirements:
Work Schedule: PRN
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
License: ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT registry eligible. Must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire.
Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
Experience: Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.
