Responsibilities:
* Underwrites new and existing subdivision account submissions of virtually all sizes and complexities utilizing underwriting authority granted by Chief Underwriting Officer and adhering to required underwriting guidelines. Makes thorough evaluations and assessments of a developer`s financial, technical, organizational, and management capacities, as well as apply a high level of subjective judgment of character, normally based upon data/insights provided by the field organization only. Incorporates expert level of knowledge regarding accounting, legal and organizational/managerial disciplines.
* With field underwriters and/or Bond Managers, meet with clients to facilitate assessments and/or provide direction for topics to be addressed with agents, principals, and others as necessary.
* Partners with field staff to identify, solicit, and contact significant producers in assigned territory under guidance from Bond Manager and more senior home office underwriting staff.
* Monitors, evaluates, and improves existing books of business from an underwriting standpoint as assigned and ensures compliance with Surety guidelines. Continuously evaluates the qualitative characteristics of new and existing business within assigned field offices. Assesses and identifies changes in all aspects of the business including, but not limited to, work program to financial strength criteria, nature of work performed (inherent risk), accuracy and timeliness of data flow, and exposure analyses. Coordinates and/or surfaces issues to manager and/or field Bond Manager. As directed by more senior staff/manager, monitors marketing, underwriting and/or administrative issues within various offices, as assigned. Prepare, recommend, and/or implement instructions for administering workflows and accounting/billing issues to service unique situations.
* Utilizes various applications and data and analyzes statistical and financial reports, claims data, and other financial exhibits/data to ensure the quality of existing and new business. Communicates issues of concern on new and existing business to the applicable field office product line underwriter and/or Bond Manager, as necessary and inputs data on accounts to complete or modify analyses and maintain lines of credit in a current and accurate matter. Pursues resolution of open issues, documents result and adjusts credit parameters extended to specific accounts based upon such facts and findings. Applies sound reason and business logic to credit recommendations, documenting such logic file and communicate credit recommendations to more senior Home Office and Field underwriting staff, as necessary.
* May directly manage and/or provide underwriting support and direction to less experienced underwriting staff/interns.
* As necessary, collaborates with Claims staff to evaluate and/or resolve claim issues and as appropriate, takes immediate action to restrict credit on affected account. Keeps senior underwriting staff/manager informed of claims issues.
* Represents Liberty Mutual Surety with competitors regarding co-Surety matters and attends industry functions (i.e., Regional NASBP conferences, AGC, and trade conventions). May speak as requested at external industry meetings.
* Leads special projects as requested/assigned.
* Train field staff on the art of subdivision underwriting.
* Review indemnity agreements prepared by the field, and account rates, for errors.
* In some parts of the country, underwrite subdivision business directly with Liberty appointed agents.
Qualifications
* Degree in Business or related field typically required
* A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive surety underwriting experience and/or other related business experience with progressive responsibility desired
* Advanced analytical ability and decision-making skills to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
* Demonstrated ability to make and clearly communicate sound underwriting recommendations that includes complex analyses, both verbal and written, and displays strong interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
* Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows

What Is the Opportunity?

What Is the Opportunity?
National Accounts provides casualty solutions for clients with significant risk with coverages such as Workers' Compensation, General and Product Liability, as well as Commercial Automobile Liability. The Account Executive Officer (AEO), National Accounts will partner with agents, brokers, and customers to provide guaranteed cost and loss sensitive coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. This role is seen as a technical resource. As an AEO, you are decisive, detail-oriented, and know how to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. What Will You Do?
* Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.

* Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.

Builds strong relationships with general contractors, developers, brokers, underwriting, and claims to coordinate service strategies, programs, and procedures. Performs prospect and service work as needed.
Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates, and monitors risk engineering service commitments for assigned Master Builders' Risk customers and projects, aligning site activities with construction milestones (precon, foundation, structure, MEP rough-in, enclosure, fit-out, commissioning) to ensure services meet expectations of the Inland Marine business and distribution partners.
Performs pre-bind and post-bind risk assessments, including plan/spec reviews and COPE data collection, to evaluate construction methods, phasing, logistics, adjacent exposures, temporary works, and critical operations (hot work, temporary heat/power, cranes/rigging, excavation/shoring, scaffolding/formwork, water intrusion controls).
Assesses catastrophic exposures (windstorm, flood, earthquake, wildfire, convective storm) and develops site-specific mitigation plans (e.g., hurricane readiness, flood emergency action, crane weather protocols, tie-down/securement, winterization/freeze protection).
Creates service plans and stewardship agendas for programs and high-value projects, documenting baseline metrics and goals (e.g., water intrusion events, hot work compliance, impairment frequency, recommendation closure rates) to track reduction in loss frequency/severity and demonstrate the value of the Builders' Risk partnership.
Provides timely consultation to underwriting on prospects, renewals, and in-term changes, including project risk opinions, risk grading, anticipated maximum loss/PML perspectives, soft cost/Delay in Completion exposures, and recommendations that inform pricing, terms, and capacity. Communicates material changes in scope, schedule, design, or site conditions.
Participates in acquiring and retaining profitable business by attending broker/insured meetings, preconstruction meetings, and bid-phase consultations; develops tailored service agreements that differentiate capabilities for complex risks (e.g., high-rise, wood-frame podium, healthcare, industrial, civil/infrastructure, renewable projects).
Evaluates use of resources (service hours, travel/expenses), quality of service, program utilization, productivity, and portfolio loss trends. Prioritizes critical-phase site visits and employs hybrid service (remote reviews, sensor data) to optimize coverage across geographically dispersed projects.
Leads major loss source analysis for Builders' Risk, with emphasis on water damage, fire/hot work, site security/theft, collapse/temporary works, and weather-driven losses. Designs and helps implement targeted controls such as Water Damage Prevention Programs (isolation/valving, pressure testing protocols, off-hours inspections, sensor deployment), hot work permitting and fire watch, impairment management, and site security plans.
Fulfills risk assessment and service requirements by producing clear, prioritized site reports with actionable recommendations, timelines, and follow-up. Tracks closure and efficacy of controls; conducts stewardship reviews with customer leadership and brokers.
Responds to special customer situations on active sites (e.g., water release, fire, severe weather impacts) with immediate guidance, escalation to internal partners, and post-incident analysis to expedite recovery and prevent recurrence.
Designs and delivers customer training programs and toolbox talks for superintendents and trade partners (water intrusion prevention, hot work, crane/rigging awareness, severe weather prep, winterization, theft prevention). Provides checklists, job aids, and program templates to drive adoption at scale across master programs.
Trains field and home office colleagues on Builders' Risk exposures, construction means and methods, and service best practices; contributes to guidelines, playbooks, and internal training. Represents the company at customer, broker, and industry events with technical presentations.
Identifies opportunities and pilots new tools/technologies (e.g., IoT water sensors, weather alerting, camera analytics) that improve loss outcomes, customer experience, and service efficiency. Designs projects that enhance program results and increase utilization of value-add services customers choose to adopt.
Conducts periodic workload and portfolio reviews; prepares specialized customer and program reports summarizing risk trends, service delivery, recommendation closure, and ROI on loss reduction.
Travel
Regular travel to active construction sites and customer locations; ability to access and navigate construction environments safely and in compliance with site requirements.
Qualifications
Demonstrated abilities in leadership, planning, relationship building, consulting, customer service, and communications (particularly presentations, persuasion, and writing)
Advanced knowledge of loss prevention principles, practices and core service capabilities as they relate to performance and profitability
Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using various proprietary software applications and create/modify documents and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge and skills required are normally acquired through a bachelor's degree with coursework in math, engineering or related areas (or equivalent), a minimum 8 years relevant experience in Risk Control or progressive safety and health field, and an advanced degree and/or professional certification in one or more of the following areas: CSP, ARM, CRM, CPCU, CIH, or CPE

Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience

Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposes
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
This position is posted as an AED, but we have the opportunity to hire a candidate an Account Executive Officer/Sr. Underwriter depending on experience. National Accounts provides casualty solutions for clients with significant risk with coverages such as Workers' Compensation, General and Product Liability, as well as Commercial Automobile Liability. The Account Executive Director (AED), National Accounts will partner with agents, brokers, and customers to provide guaranteed cost and loss sensitive coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. This role has the highest level of production, technical, and sales expertise and is a technical resource for the region/business unit. As an AED, you are decisive, detail-oriented, and know how to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. Your ability to independently assess the most complex risk and sell our products in challenging markets will contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers.
What Will You Do?
* Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. The book of business owned is comprised of accounts with the highest complexity.
* Underwrite and skillfully negotiate the most complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
* Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
* Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents, brokers, and customers to market and sell Travelers products with a goal of writing and retaining accounts consistent with our risk appetite. Must be able to travel to such meetings.
* Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills. The sales process to target new accounts has a long runway (6 months to 1 year).
* Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently partner with your Managing Director (MD) to develop region/group sales plans.
* Provide coaching, mentoring, and strategic counsel on underwriting to all levels of underwriters within region or business unit.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

The Senior Underwriting (UW) Officer, Excess Casualty, will report to the Executive Underwriting Officer of Major Accounts Casualty. Major Accounts works with large and complex commercial risks to deliver Primary and Excess Casualty programs to these highly valued customers. You will focus on our Majors Excess Casualty portfolio, which services some of the largest companies in the U.S. The Senior Underwriting (UW) Officer, Excess Casualty, will work with the leadership team, deliver technical expertise, and serve as the point of contact for the frontline underwriting teams for all questions, key decisions, or referrals. The role will engage with various product sets in Umbrella, Excess, and Alternative Risk Transfer (ART).
Responsibilities:
Provides expert technical underwriting assistance and formal referral approval for assigned lines of business (lead umbrella/excess) in Majors Excess Casualty. Interacts independently with field underwriters and directly with UW managers on all mandatory referral cases and voluntary consultation items.
Ensures continuity and alignment between Primary and Excess Casualty placements.
Supports Executive Underwriting Officer on transactions and serves as trusted advisor in the areas of exposure, coverage analysis, and key pricing/financial elements within their authority.
Monitors frameworks for underwriting decisions (e.g., referrals, technical reviews) and recommends improvements, as needed.
Evaluates portfolio performance regularly in Majors Excess Casualty, working with Underwriting Leaders to identify drivers of performance, risks, and opportunities.
Drives UW technical excellence across Majors Excess Casualty, working with Underwriting Leaders to identify and resolve issues.
Works with Underwriting Leaders to identify product and services enhancements, underwriter capability development opportunities (e.g., skills, tools), and elevates to Executive Underwriting Officer and Majors CUO.
Models effective collaboration within/across teams, stakeholders and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, NA Product Teams).
Qualifications
Preparation, Training & Experience
Expert-level knowledge of all aspects of coverage forms, exclusions, and exposure. Experience underwriting Umbrella, Excess, and ART, including pricing, structure, rating plans, loss forecasting, credit risk, market knowledge.
Advanced knowledge of and experience operating within several different industry segments; insurance operations; claims, finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; loss control/risk engineering; reinsurance; account management; product development; and industry trends.
Must be a skilled collaborator who is willing to assess all sides of an issue, bring in others with expertise, and independently execute and advance the collaboration model.
Other professional skills required include superior communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, listening); approachability; tact; coaching/development; analyzing and problem solving; relationship and service driven; clear solutions orientation and commitment to achieving segment operational and financial objectives; negotiation skills; and demonstrated ability to consistently and positively influence others both internally and externally (brokers/customers) as required.
Bachelor`s degree, 10 or more years of relevant experience that includes underwriting, claims, reinsurance, coaching/developing others, working with brokers/agents and currency with market trends and developments.

As an Underwriter, you will assist the underwriting team in evaluating risks, servicing accounts, and contributing to the growth of our specialty portfolio. Role Responsibilities:
Risk Selection: Review, rate, underwrite, evaluate, and assess businesses applying for insurance. This includes qualifying accounts, identifying and assessing risks, determining premiums, establishing policy terms and conditions, obtaining approvals, creating and presenting proposals to agents/brokers, and successfully negotiating deals.
Agent/Broker Relationships: Establish, develop, and maintain successful relationships with agents and brokers to facilitate the marketing of products and services. Provide stewardship with service partners, including initial setup of service commitments and regular visits.
Personal Branding: Develop a strong personal brand to build and maintain a quality pipeline with agents and brokers.
Portfolio Management: Manage a book of business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying opportunities for growth, profit, and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share with preferred brokers.
Documenting the Deal: Document files clearly to reflect a solid thought process and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs, and referrals that comply with state regulations, letters of authority, and underwriting guidelines.
Qualifications
A degree in Business or a related field is typically required. Candidates should have at least 1 year (preferably 1.5 or more years) of underwriting experience or related business experience. Active pursuit of professional insurance designations is encouraged. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships. Strong analytical skills to evaluate underwriting risks within defined authority are essential. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with producers and customers.
