What You Will Do
Applies mutually shared and lived experiences navigating the systems of care as a caregiver. Serves as a role model, advocate, and mentor for children and families
Assists with obtaining and maintaining clients' entitlements, including Medicaid, Public Assistance, SSI as well as assisting with problems related to housing or utilities
Interviews clients and significant others, when appropriate, in order to obtain personal histories and to understand the social and emotional factors related to the client's mental health problems
Participates in frequent active engagement with families to engage them in receiving services and assists in empowering them to take the steps necessary to maximize their quality of life
Develops inventory of resources that will meet the clients' needs as identified in the assessment process
Advocates for and assists clients in utilizing adjunctive community resources. Arranges transportation and accompanies clients to appropriate facilities/agencies, as necessary
Provides linkage, coordination with, referral to and follow-up with other service providers. Monitors appointments medical facilities, social service agencies or other providers of concrete services
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to discuss care needs and identify solutions to support clients/consumers/members
Attends planning meetings with service providers to coordinate service plans

The role involves converting cases from Outreach to Enrollment and managing a small caseload of children with high-risk behaviors. Qualifications

Salary Range: $62,400.00-75,000.00
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The Vocational Counselor (CRC) is responsible for providing services which assist clients in obtaining necessary education, vocational skills, interests and work attitudes in order to secure employment. The Vocational Counselor (CRC) will meet regularly with the interdisciplinary team to communicate information related to the client's vocational status. The Vocational Counselor (CRC) works closely with the rest of the staff as an integral part of the clinical team.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulate a vocational profile for assigned clients in OASAS certified residential programs including TABE testing and the comprehensive vocational assessment within designated time frames.
Assist clients in developing realistic short and long-term vocational goals.
Administer and interpret vocational and interest tests to establish clients' achievements, interests and aptitudes.
Serve as liaison with NYS Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities and the NYC Dept. of Education (Off-site Educational Services and Board of Adult Continuing Education).
Present compiled vocational data to treatment staff and participate in treatment team meetings.
Conduct discussion groups providing vocational awareness, techniques for handling work situations and job seeking skill preparation.
Maintain up-to-date resident charts including individual and group notes; develop and maintain good charting skills.
Interface with department supervisors in coordinating job functions and situational assessment performance appraisals.
Prepare all necessary proposals and reports.
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conferences.
Attend all required in-service training seminars.
Participate in quality improvement activities.
Other relevant duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with 1 year related work experience preferred.
Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) highly preferred.
3 years' professional experience in rehabilitation services.
Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, AWARDS, and Outlook programs).
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Position Description:
St. John's University is seeking is seeking a compassionate and qualified Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join the CAPS our team on a part-time, hourly basis. This role is ideal for a dedicated clinician interested in supporting college students' mental health and wellness through evening and weekend services. The counselor will provide direct clinical services, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach programming. Services will be offered primarily during evenings and on weekends to best meet student needs.
Responsibilities:
Provide short-term, goal-oriented individual counseling to a diverse student population.
Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments; provide referrals as needed.
Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Student Affairs, Residence Life, Academic Advising) as needed for coordinated student care.
Participate in outreach and wellness events that promote mental health awareness.
Uphold confidentiality and ethical practices in alignment with professional standards and university policy.
Attend required staff meetings and supervision, as scheduled.
Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Active and unrestricted licensure in the state (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, LPC, or equivalent).
Minimum of 1 year of post-licensure clinical experience, preferably in a college or young adult setting.
Strong clinical skills in assessment, crisis response, and brief counseling.
Experience working with diverse populations, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international students, and students with disabilities.
Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, particularly using short-term treatment interventions.
Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity.
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to collaborate with other departments and college administrators.
Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
