About this role
As a Licensed Mental Health Professional working in a correctional facility, your responsibilities include conducting intake evaluations, providing therapeutic interventions and suicide prevention techniques, and developing treatment plans for inmates. You will also be responsible for monitoring the clinical needs of inmates on your caseload, providing staff training on mental health topics, and documenting all findings in accordance with company and facility policies. Your role is critical in ensuring that inmates receive appropriate mental health services and care while incarcerated.

What you bring to the table
Education
* Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or Other Related Mental Health discipline
Experience
* One (1) or more years of experience in a Mental Health treatment program, preferably in a Correctional or Hospital setting
Licenses/Certifications
* Unrestricted, current license in the State of practice - e.g. LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LMHC, Psychologist - Must maintain all licensures, certifications, continuing educational requirements, etc.
What you will do
* Conduct screening, assessments, and triages for inmates referred by security, healthcare staff, and other community sources, and provide appropriate recommendations for their level of care.
* Develop and recommend treatment plans, conduct essential treatment services such as psychoeducational and transitional groups, and provide suicide prevention interventions and management techniques.
* Respond to sick call requests, provide medication adherence, and coordinate with prescribing providers for medication evaluations.
* Provide crisis intervention, oversee the clinical needs of patients on caseload, and participate in treatment team multidisciplinary meetings and administrative meetings.
* Provide staff training on relevant mental health topics, document all findings in the patient's health record, and ensure compliance with facility and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
Provides orientation to new patients to the programs' rules, policies, procedures, and patients' rights.
Conduct Intakes, Discharge Planning, Initial Assessments, and Initial Treatment Plans professionally and within time guidelines as required by applicable federal and state regulation, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle Policies.
Involve patients in the assessment, treatment planning, and intervention aspects of treatment, which provides the patient with a sense of entitlement to their own recovery.
Administer the biopsychosocial assessment, which evaluates all areas of patients' lives, including their addictions, medical and mental health history, socioeconomics, legal, etc. at intake and on an ongoing basis.
Recognize and utilize patients' Strengths, Needs, Ability, and Preferences (SNAP), to develop and implement individualized Treatment Plans that effectively help patients to meet their short & long-term goals. • Determine the clinical necessity of counseling services based on the clinical assessment and evaluation of the patients.
Monitor closely, and document any change of circumstances with the patients, especially as it relates to matters that may affect their recovery, identifying and addressing relapse indicators to promote relapse prevention interventions in an early stage.
Comply with and implement the Medical Q.A (Quality Assurance) and Clinical Risk Management Policies, including:
Evaluate the patients for any high-risk conditions (e.g., liver failure, pregnancy, overdose, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.), which may endanger the patient (suicidal) or other parties (homicidal).
Administer the BAM-R, C-SSRS, GAD-7, and PHQ-9 screening tools to determine the severity of the patient's mental/emotional status.
Evaluate the risk factors concerning each such case, considering the appropriateness of, and professionalism in treating such individuals in an OTP in comparison to treatment in a residential facility or other treatment modalities.
Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.
Advise, in writing, other staff members (including the clinic manager, supervising counselor, dispensing nurse and front office) of high-risk patients and their condition. Maintain and circulate minutes from treatment team/case conference sessions to the other staff members.
Provide professional counseling and referral services by:
Addressing patients' clinical and special needs by maintaining referrals to specialized (“second tier”) services rendered by physicians, physician extenders and counselors within Aegis, as well as referrals to Keys to Recovery (or other twelve-step) support groups, and other community resources (e.g., agencies and practitioners outside of Aegis), acting as a liaison to these agencies, as necessary.
Providing individual and group counseling as clinically necessary, to address the problem issues identified in the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plans. The counseling service will include protocols for the treatment of Relapse Prevention, Peer Pressure, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Family Preservation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
Utilizing advanced counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Scheduling regular counseling sessions with patients; issue patient appointment cards and record scheduled or rescheduled sessions in EHR scheduler.
Documenting counseling entries, including signature and date, as required by applicable federal and state regulations, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle policies.
Engaging in Community Relations and Outreach efforts.
Attending all recommended training including Physician Training of Counselors, RCL training, and case conferences with the program physicians and physician assistants.
Collecting research data when requested.
Observing the collection of patients' urine samples when required
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.
Other duties as assigned.

Counselor I: $20/hour to $23/hour
Possess an associate degree in relevant field and has the registration/credentials necessary to provide counseling services to our patient population.
Kern County requires a bachelor's degree or High school diploma/GED with 75% certification education.

Counselor II: $23/hour to $26/hour

WHAT YOU'LL DO Under the general supervision of a dean, the Counselor will provide specialized academic counseling services, career guidance, and advisement to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of developing and facilitating the attainment of their academic, vocational, and personal objectives.
There is currently one full-time, tenure-track position at Oxnard College. With the initial focus on retention & Rising Scholars, the counselor will facilitate transitional pathways focusing on early interventions, retention, and justice-impacted advocacy to increase student enrollment and completion and guide students to College resources including those for currently and formally incarcerated students.
The Counselor will work with instructional, student services, and leadership at Oxnard College and interface with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Ventura County Sheriff's Department, Ventura County Probation Department, and other community organizations to provide support to students. Key Responsibilities:
Provides orientation to new patients to the programs' rules, policies, procedures, and patients' rights.
Conduct Intakes, Discharge Planning, Initial Assessments, and Initial Treatment Plans professionally and within time guidelines as required by applicable federal and state regulation, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle Policies.
Involve patients in the assessment, treatment planning, and intervention aspects of treatment, which provides the patient with a sense of entitlement to their own recovery.
Administer the biopsychosocial assessment, which evaluates all areas of patients' lives, including their addictions, medical and mental health history, socioeconomics, legal, etc. at intake and on an ongoing basis.
Recognize and utilize patients' Strengths, Needs, Ability, and Preferences (SNAP), to develop and implement individualized Treatment Plans that effectively help patients to meet their short & long-term goals. • Determine the clinical necessity of counseling services based on the clinical assessment and evaluation of the patients.
Monitor closely, and document any change of circumstances with the patients, especially as it relates to matters that may affect their recovery, identifying and addressing relapse indicators to promote relapse prevention interventions in an early stage.
Comply with and implement the Medical Q.A (Quality Assurance) and Clinical Risk Management Policies, including:
Evaluate the patients for any high-risk conditions (e.g., liver failure, pregnancy, overdose, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.), which may endanger the patient (suicidal) or other parties (homicidal).
Administer the BAM-R, C-SSRS, GAD-7, and PHQ-9 screening tools to determine the severity of the patient's mental/emotional status.
Evaluate the risk factors concerning each such case, considering the appropriateness of, and professionalism in treating such individuals in an OTP in comparison to treatment in a residential facility or other treatment modalities.
Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.
Advise, in writing, other staff members (including the clinic manager, supervising counselor, dispensing nurse and front office) of high-risk patients and their condition. Maintain and circulate minutes from treatment team/case conference sessions to the other staff members.
Provide professional counseling and referral services by:
Addressing patients' clinical and special needs by maintaining referrals to specialized (“second tier”) services rendered by physicians, physician extenders and counselors within Aegis, as well as referrals to Keys to Recovery (or other twelve-step) support groups, and other community resources (e.g., agencies and practitioners outside of Aegis), acting as a liaison to these agencies, as necessary.
Providing individual and group counseling as clinically necessary, to address the problem issues identified in the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plans. The counseling service will include protocols for the treatment of Relapse Prevention, Peer Pressure, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Family Preservation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
Utilizing advanced counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Scheduling regular counseling sessions with patients; issue patient appointment cards and record scheduled or rescheduled sessions in EHR scheduler.
Documenting counseling entries, including signature and date, as required by applicable federal and state regulations, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle policies.
Engaging in Community Relations and Outreach efforts.
Attending all recommended training including Physician Training of Counselors, RCL training, and case conferences with the program physicians and physician assistants.
Collecting research data when requested.
Observing the collection of patients' urine samples when required
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.

Assist families in filling out applications and gathering required documents and completing forms, as needed.
Complete a Family Assessment with assigned families through required home visits and make appropriate referrals to community resources. Maintain regular contact with families to keep abreast of needs and interest through additional home visits, phone calls, center contacts and other means as indicated.
Provide support needed to encourage and assist families in their own efforts to improve the condition and quality of their family life.
Set up and maintain effective and efficient child and family records and inventory systems for children enrolled and those who have left the program.
Maintain a computerized database and record keeping system by entering and updating the child's and family's information on a regular basis.
Manage the caseload of all assigned families as determined by on-going family needs. Keep record of contracts, case history updates and other pertinent data, including case conferencing on a regular basis with supervisor.
Accurately maintain, monitor and submit required reports by established deadlines.
Conduct recruitment activities which include door to door recruitment, agency and community outreach, and distribution of materials as assigned.
Register and enroll children and maintain full enrollment throughout the year.
Monitor attendance of children in assigned classes and follow up on absences as necessary.
Participate in staff and center parent meetings. Attend other meetings and workshops as assigned. Meetings may be scheduled in the evenings in order to accommodate parents' work schedules.
Provide information to parents for dental and physical screenings and follow up appointments as indicated for Head Start children and ensure required follow up is completed.
Conduct and assist with hearing, vision, dental, and other health screenings of Head Start children as assigned.
Maintain health records for Head Start children.
Maintain current community resource files. Visit community agencies which can assist Head Start families and establish and maintain good working relationships.
Provide transportation for screening, medical and dental appointments as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Required Education and Experience:
*Minimum of an associate degree in social work, family services, counseling, human services, or related field.
Minimum of two years' recent paid experience in a position involving community or social work. This should include some experience interviewing clients and caseload management.
*Unless the candidate holds a degree in social work, within 18 months of hire, at a minimum, a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field will be required to be obtained as a condition of employment.
Knowledge and Abilities: Fluent bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Knowledge of social service functions and/ or health activities. Knowledge of relevant public and private agencies. Familiar with and ability to use computer for the entering of client data and word processing. Knowledge of Windows environment including Word and Excel. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently. Ability to follow through on assigned duties. Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative. Ability to perform routine clerical duties. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to low-income families, families at risk, and cultural beliefs and practices. Ability to speak before a group. Ability to drive vehicle and travel to and/or work out of a worksite throughout Ventura County.
Physical Abilities: Ability to effectively use hands and fingers in the use of computer keyboard and other office machines and for completing required paperwork. Ability to safely drive own or company vehicle. Ability to walk, climb stairs, and/or stand extensively and continuously throughout employment for the purpose of ongoing outdoor recruitment. May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. Able to occasionally or frequently lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to carry, push, and/ or pull rolling carts and/or case with supplies while attending local events for the purpose of community outreach and while conducting outdoor recruitment.
License or Other Requirements: Must possess a valid California driver's license and have access to a dependable auto with appropriate insurance coverage. Must submit to a job-pertinent, agency-paid, pre-employment physical examination, negative tuberculosis test and criminal record background checks. Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of all required tests mentioned above. Periodic physical examinations and TB clearances will be required if hired. Mandated Reporter.
Floater Family Services Specialist
Floater family services specialist will be assigned a home base; however, will be required to provide temporary coverage at any program center throughout Ventura County where short staffed. The temporary assignments will continue until coverage is no longer needed.
