The School of Social Work at Boise State University seeks a new scholars to help build on the School of Social Work's history of success and continue to grow the thriving MSW and BSW programs; and contribute to interdisciplinary, interprofessional, and community-engaged teaching, scholarship, research, and service. We are seeking to fill four tenure-track faculty positions, with at least three at the Assistant Professor level and one open to candidates at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
The School of Social Work at Boise State University is committed to supporting faculty with diverse research agendas and teaching philosophies in order to create a robust educational and research environment. We are particularly interested in applicants with research, practice, or teaching experience with diverse and historically underserved individuals, families, and communities.
This full-time, 9-month tenure-track position will begin in August 2025. Responsibilities include a 3-3- teaching load in the BSW and/or MSW programs, maintaining an active research agenda, and professional service. Course releases are available during your first year to reduce your teaching load to allow more time for research.
Required qualifications include:
PhD in Social Work or a closely related field that is conferred by the start of the appointment
Master's degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the CSWE
Successful candidates will be able to provide evidence of their history, or potential, to achieve excellence in scholarly research (e.g. peer-reviewed publications, dissertation, monographs, book chapters) and teaching (e.g. student teaching evaluations, peer evaluations of teaching, faculty mentor evaluations of teaching).
Preferred qualifications include:
A minimum of two years post-MSW practice experience.
The ability to apply for and secure external research funding.
The ability to teach in both the BSW and MSW programs, in-person and online.
Experience in developing and maintaining successful community partnerships.
The School:
Housed within the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University, the School of Social Work prepares graduates in Idaho, the Pacific Northwest, and throughout the country for beginning and advanced social work practice. Our programs are rigorous and our faculty provide a comprehensive and interactive in-person and online education. Our curriculum is informed by a recognition of the critical importance of diversity and an understanding of cultural, political, and socio-historical contexts for social work education, practice, and research. Being a part of the College of Health Sciences provides numerous opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary research and educational programming. Today the School has the largest graduate program at the University. The 280 undergraduate students and 539 graduate students (89 face-to-face and 450 online) are served by 23 full-time faculty. In addition to the undergraduate BSW program, the School also offers both the Full-Program MSW and the Advanced Standing MSW options. All social work programs have been reaffirmed for accreditation through February 2027 by the CSWE.

Salary and benefits:
Assistant Professor salary ranges from $72,000 - $80,000 per year (9-month contract). Associate or Full Professor salaries commensurate with experience.
Additional opportunities for summer courses/activities are available. One 3 credit summer course is compensated at 9% of a faculty member's 9-month salary (3% per credit hour).

Duties:
The Incumbent is responsible to:
1) Review VA's Northeast Program Evaluation Center (NEPEC) evaluation results and other evaluation data.
2) Work with VA medical facilities, VISN Network Homeless Coordinators, and the VHA Central Office VJO Program Manager to provide program oversight and take action to correct any deficiencies that are discovered.
3) Work with medical facility quality and performance management staff to develop a quality and risk management reporting system for VJO Veterans. This system is to include both quality issues involving VJO Veterans' access to VA programs and risk issues involving VJO Veterans.
4) Review VJO critical incidents and initiating appropriate investigation and follow-up activities in collaboration with the VA medical facility staff. This includes initiating Heads-up notifications and Issue Briefs as needed following VHA, VISN and local policies.
5) Provide support, guidance and consultation to VJO Specialists through regular communications, including site visits to prisons, jails and courts to facilitate mentoring and problem solving and facilitating site visits by justice system staff to VA medical facilities.
6) Review staffing patterns and work assignments within assigned areas to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to meet workload demands.
7) Works with the M2VA Coordinator to develop a system to identify Post 9/11 M2VA patients served by the facility and those in the catchment area not currently seen. Ensure Post 9/11 M2VA veterans receive comprehensive preventive mental and physical health evaluations.
8) Research community resources (local, state, and national) that are available to provide continuity of care and to enhance the quality of life of the Veteran for VJO and M2VA.
9) Work with the M2VA Coordinator to ensure program reports are prepared for VACO, the VISN POC and the Medical Center Leadership.
10) Work with M2VA Coordinator to ensure monitoring of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) performance measures related to M2VA to ensure they are met or exceeded.
11) Establish performance and outcome standards for the facility Post 9/11 M2VA Program that promote quality and efficiency of services in coordination with the overall goals of the medical center and those of the VISN and VACO.
12) Develops policy and procedures to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and other accrediting bodies and regulatory standards as needed.
13) Conduct regular, ongoing outreach to selected jail facilities serving the catchment area of the medical center. This includes development of collaborative arrangements with county jail personnel involved in outside programming and re-entry services, arrangements for jail clearance for the VJO Specialist and other involved VA outreach staff and establishing a schedule of regular outreach to the facilities.

* Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
* Provides interventions for patients, families, and caregivers as appropriate. Interventions may include but are not limited to brief counseling, supportive therapy, crisis intervention, grief counseling, psychiatric placement/referral, alcohol/drug assessment and referral, and referral to alternative community resources.
* Participates in care coordination activities for those patients identified as needing social work and/or complex case management interventions.
* Works collaboratively with healthcare team members to efficiently allocate resources.
* Accurately documents assessments, plans, and interventions in the EMR.
* Responsible for coordination of care to mental health and/or substance abuse facilities.
* Responsible for following established patient choice policy.
* Responsible for coordinating with physicians and other legal entities relating to, but not limited to, guardianships, involuntary psychiatric holds, power of attorney, and advanced directives.
* Collaborates with physicians and hospital staff through formal and/or informal multidisciplinary case conferences to meet the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual needs of patients and/or their families/caregivers
* Responsible for weekend and holiday social work coverage.
* Actively participates in department staff meetings and other teams or committees as required
* Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable).
* Adheres to the National association of Social Work (NASW) code of ethics and the State Licensure Board of ethics.
