The speech pathologist provides services to patients of all ages as ordered immediately post trauma, surgery, acute medical event or exacerbation. Speech pathologists assist patients to reach their highest level of function in the areas of communication and swallowing. The SLP makes recommendations for the next level of care and also provides education and to patients and their families. Speech pathologists participate in specialty teams including pediatric, neonatal care, assistive technology, and endoscopic voice/swallowing assessments.
