City/State Norfolk, VA Work Shift First (Days) Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for our Intensive Care Unit Full Time (36 hours per week) Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Department/Position Overview:
Sentara Leigh Hospital Intensive Care Unit, AACN Gold Beacon Award recipient, is comprised of 20 licensed critical care beds and has an average daily census of 18 patients. Staffing ratios vary and can be 1:1 to 1:3 with 1:2 being the usual assignment.
The ICU RN's are required to have a wide array of knowledge, skill and ability to competently and safely provide critical care to our patients. Frequent ongoing education, new skill acquisition and skill validation are provided and supported by an experienced ICU CNS for new and experienced ICU nurses. Newly hired RN's will have between 2-14 weeks of orientation depending on prior experience. Our preceptors are purposely selected for their teaching ability and formally trained to meet the training needs of new staff. Specific attention is provided for new graduate ICU RN's as they participate in our Vizient AACN Nurse Residency Program and AACN's essentials of Critical Care Orientation online education. Experienced RN's are encouraged and supported with educational and financial assistance to achieve critical care certification.
ICU staff are supported by an interdisciplinary care team which in part includes unit based respiratory, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Interpreter, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy and ethical services are readily available as well. Our ICU has onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders 24/7. Physician lead, nurse driven interdisciplinary rounds are held daily for continuity of care and to address nursing's concerns or questions. These rounds are made educational and even fun at times by our very engaged intensivist MD's.

Essential Functions:
1. Perform scheduling, pre‐registration, cancellation, and insurance and benefits verification and patient payment collection and all other centralized scheduling duties in compliance with customer service standards.
2. Strong customer service skills to ensure quality phone calls with the patients.
3. Execute front‐end centralized collection of all patient insurance benefits information to ensure accurate payment of services as well as educate patients on copays and previous balances. Schedule patients with financial counselors for assistance when appropriate or get patient to a customer representative to learn more about their balance.
4. Develop strong working relationships with physician offices, non‐centralized scheduling and registration areas, ancillary coding, and other areas as needed to ensure appropriate and effective communication and coordination of service delivery.
5. Assist patients with enrollment of my chart or any issues related to my chart and educate on the capabilities.
6. Adhere to all relevant policies and procedure as outlined by direct report.
7. Meet productivity, quality requirements and service goals as outlined in the performance expectations.
8. Function as a team member to assist other centralized schedulers with tasks as needed including assisting in training of all employees as assigned.
9. Communicate to direct report all centralized scheduling obstacles, concerns and system deficiencies impacting the team and provide support in dealing with complex issues.
10. Complete special projects, make outbound calls to schedule from referrals/orders, enter in orders and referrals, assist with conversational messaging with patient or work queues as assigned.
11. Operate and utilize the Epic System while staying current and learning new skills as needed to perform all aspects of the position.

What we are:
9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry and renal/pancreas transplant patients. 9 Kaufman is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing is comprised of RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners) and UAs (unit ambassadors) and CSAs (clinical support associates).
What we do:
Some of 9 Kaufman's vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries and amputations. 9 Kaufman is an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team to include the outpatient transplant center and all the nurses on 9 Kaufman are specially trained and can sit for the PCCN certification which we will help you obtain. All the beds on 9 Kaufman are monitored beds. 9 Kaufman cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. You will be exposed to many types of patients on 9 Kaufman aiding in your ability to provide great care to anyone that chose Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to meet their healthcare needs.

2. Bills Medicare for PR-96/204 (denials) required for secondary billing submissions.
3. Follows up on EOB's (explanation of benefits) which includes:
- Medicare denials
- Billing secondary insurance after Medicare's has denied claims.
4. Calling insurance companies for explanation of denials if questionable.
5. Making corrections on deny claims and re-bills insurance companies.
6. Checks EOB's with contracted fee schedule for accuracy or adjustments as needed.
7. Patient calls for benefit, invoicing, and explanations as needed.
8. Resolves electronic (Office Ally, Novologix, or Emdeon clearing house) report matters.
Minimum Qualifications:
Effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
Office experience preferred.
Computer skills that include word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express technical issues in “layman” terms.
Must be detail oriented
Education and/or Experience:
Must have a High School diploma or Graduation Equivalent Diploma (G.E.D.) or Higher.
At least 1 -2 years of medical or pharmaceutical billing experience or related A/R
Knowledge of insurance verification procedures.
Proficiency in 10-key preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express technical issues in “layman” terms. Fluency in a second language is a plus.
Must be friendly professional and cooperative with a good aptitude for customer service and problem solving.
Education and/or Experience:
Must have a High School diploma or Graduation Equivalent Diploma (G.E.D.)
Prior experience in a pharmacy or home health company is preferred.
Prior dental or home infusion experience a plus
Prior experience in a consumer related business is preferred
