The Opportunity As the STL Supervisor, you will be at the heart of our mission to push science forward and provide the highest quality services to the communities we serve. You will oversee a highly diverse team that performs a range of critical testing, including: cellular therapy, blood center product quality control, HLA/HPA, molecular, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will monitor and guide staff, facilitate workflow, and provide expert consultation for complex, high complexity testing and immunohematology problems. Core Responsibilities Include (but not limited to): Team Leadership & Development: Provide day-to-day supervision, mentorship, and guidance to Medical Laboratory Scientists. Be consistently accessible to your team for on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation. Develop plans for staffing, scheduling, and training for laboratory personnel. Evaluate and ensure team member competency. Operational & Technical Oversight: Perform the duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist as needed. Monitor all testing and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. Oversee preanalytical, analytical, and result reporting procedures. Research, validate, and support the implementation of new instruments and assays. Quality & Compliance: Periodically update policy and procedure manuals to meet internal and external regulations. Assist with quality audits to ensure the lab operates according to all state, federal, and accrediting standards. This position may require being on-call to meet the needs of the laboratory. What You'll Bring (Qualifications): Must-Haves: A Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science. Current Florida supervisor license in relevant specialty areas (Generalist), or eligibility to obtain it within 6 months of hire. National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist Generalist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent). Must have MB (ASCP) within one year of hire. A valid driver's license and the ability to meet LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements. Experience & Skills: A minimum of five years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience (advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of some experience). Demonstrated strength in leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills is paramount. A strong passion for learning new skills and the cognitive ability to master complex technical processes. Knowledge of laboratory processes, quality systems, and state/federal regulations. Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office. Preferred: Previous supervisory experience. Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) certification is advantageous. Who We Are LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
