They are highly specialized experts in maintaining sterile environments. They gown and glove surgeons and assistants, sterile drape patients, and stand next to or across from surgeons to assist with surgeries. They are in charge of and handle all instruments, scrubs, sutures, implants, etc. They also count all instruments and supplies before, during, and after procedures.
