Under general direction of the Electrician Foreman or designee, the Electrician will perform all duties particular to and required in the trade of a journeyman electrician. This includes all electrical work requiring expertise in installing, modifying, preventative maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and system, distributions systems, fire/security systems, street lighting, emergency lighting, cameras, card access, etc.
Position Summary
The Electrician reports to the Electrical Foreman or designee. This individual receives written and oral instructions for the execution of their duties. This individual also interacts with other Physical Plant staff, Heating Plant staff, Grounds staff, Building Services staff, Residential Facilities, Support staff, outside contractors and vendors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Scheduled Preventative Maintenance
* Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on electrical distributions systems, electrical motors, VFD's, Fire and Security systems, Emergency lighting, etc.
* Assist other departments with preventative maintenance task
Onsite Electrical Shop Duties
* Perform journeyman level electrical work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of both AC and DC electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems including transformers and distribution system
* Inspect and test elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions
* Install, service, and repair lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring
* Install, service, and repair fire alarm, security, and emergency lighting
* Troubleshoot and repair all systems
* Maintain strict adherence to relevant industry and employer safety standards
Project Duties
* Provide assistance during renovation of existing or on large-scale construction projects and other strategic initiatives
* Be familiar with project costs and cost tracking
* Follow cost-of-work practices with the budget
Additional Duties
* Assist with after-hours and weekend emergency "Call-Back" to supervise and/or perform repair jobs
* Provide event support as assigned
* Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
* Skill in the use of tools and equipment.

* Valid/current noncommercial Class D driver's license as required by the State of Illinois for the type of motor vehicle(s) to be operated by the incumbent.
