Lars-Eric was a real—as well as symbolic—father, and since 1979 his son, Sven-Olof Lindblad, grew his legacy by greatly expanding transformative travel experiences in the world’s most remarkable places.
In the '90s there was a period of significant growth when Hapag-Lloyd turned their extensive expertise in passenger shipping to expedition travel, launching the purpose-built MS Bremen in 1990.
Lindblad Expeditions has raised more than $18.5 million from curious and committed travelers since 1997 to protect the ocean, conserve wildlife, bolster local communities, and enable meaningful scientific research.
In 2008 Silversea established Silversea Expeditions, bringing the concept of cruising way off the beaten track to small ship aficionados.
Taking a different direction, Hurtigruten have led the way in low carbon technology, launching the world's first hybrid-powered cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen, in 2019, followed later that year by the sister ship MS Fridtjof Nansen.
