Those that are selected will spend a week in July at P&G's Global Flight Operations in Cincinnati, Ohio.
You will spend the first three days at the hangar meeting with managers and key personnel of different departments to gain an understanding of what it takes to keep a large corporate flight department functioning efficiently. The last two days will focus on aircraft orientation, aspects of flight planning, and aircraft maintenance. As the flight schedule allows, you will also get to participate in flight observation rides during scheduled trips.

GS-2181-13 (Flight Instructor):

The principal responsibilities and authorities of the Pilot position aboard company vessels are outlined below.
Responsibility and Authority:
a) The Pilot is responsible for the safety and the security of his crew and vessel, the tow and cargo, and the satisfactory performance of all crew members. The Pilot is authorized to make any and all decisions (within approved policy and procedural guidelines) regarding the vessel and its crew, while on duty and particularly as they pertain to safety.
b) The Pilot must adhere to the provisions of the Certificate of Inspection (COI) if/when the vessel has been issued one. The Pilot must ensure the vessel is manned in accordance with the COI.
c) The Pilot must also ensure that Company policies, rules, and regulations are followed and the “Rules of the Road” and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulations are strictly adhered to.
d) The Pilot must make a reasonable effort to be familiar with and adhere to the provisions of the Towing Safety Management System (TSMS) applicable to the vessel.
e) The Pilot is responsible for both reviewing the contents of the safety management system applicable to the towing vessel and reporting non-conformities to shore-based management.
f) The Pilot must immediately report any nonconformity to the Office by telephone. Nonconformities may include but are not limited to such items as all violations of policies or violations of Federal, State, or local laws, safety or seaworthiness of the vessel, crewing issues, safety or seaworthiness of any barges or other equipment, crew injuries, incidences or illnesses, all equipment incidents or accidents. Nonconformities and reporting details must be detailed in the Vessel Log.
g) The Pilot is responsible for supervising all persons onboard in carrying out their assigned duties.
1) The Pilot has the authority to determine that an operation endangers the vessel or crew.
2) If the Pilot has determined that an unsafe condition exists, the Pilot must ensure that adequate corrective action is taken, and must not proceed until it is safe to do so.
h) The Pilot of the vessel serves as a watch stander and is responsible for safety of navigation and operation of their towing vessel and associated equipment.
1) The Pilot has the authority to determine if it is unsafe for the towing vessel to proceed.
2) If the Pilot has determined it is unsafe to proceed, the Pilot must ensure that adequate corrective action is taken, and must not proceed until it is safe to do so.
i) Nothing in the safety management system applicable to the towing vessel shall be misinterpreted in a manner that limits the Pilot of their own responsibility to take such steps as s/he deems necessary and prudent to assist vessels in distress, or for other emergency conditions.
j) The Pilot has the authority to request the company's help whenever they deem necessary.
Pilot for Fleet or Line Haul Operations
The job description and duties of Pilot (Pilot for Fleet or Line haul) for vessels engaged in Line Haul service are outlined below and shall apply to all Pilots employed by Superior Marine.
Position Summary
5.1.1 The Pilot is directly responsible for the safety of the towing vessel.
5.1.2 The Pilot is directly responsible for all vessel operations and must be knowledgeable of general operation of the vessel, its systems, to follow and carry out safety rules, procedures, and policies as stated in the Safety Management System applicable to the towing vessel.
5.1.3 The Pilot is responsible for adhering to the provisions of the Certificate of Inspection (COI), if/when issued.
5.1.4 The Pilot is responsible for adhering to the provisions of all applicable company policies and procedures and for all regulations.
5.1.5 The Pilot must also make a reasonable effort to review the contents of the Safety Management System initially and when any changes are made thereafter, and comply with the Safety Management System, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
5.1.6 The Pilot monitors and controls expenditures for fuel, supplies, harbor service usage, and overtime. The Pilot ensures the vessel is operated safely and efficiently in all weather and river conditions.
5.1.7 The Pilot must meet all the requirements to maintain a current USCG Mariner License for the area they operate, Radar Observer certificates, Medical and TWIC cards. Note if any renewal dates are expired then the license is not valid to work under.
Original unexpired documents must be in the possession of the wheelhouse personnel when on board the vessel.
Any change in the status of an individual's license or radar certificate or medical card must immediately be reported to Management.
Copies of required documents shall be kept in the office in employee files.
5.1.8 The Pilot is responsible for and will be held accountable for his/her own health, safety, and cleanliness as well as the safety, cleanliness and work performance of all those crew members under him/her. He/she must be familiar with the company's policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations, and must abide by them at all times.
5.1.9 The Pilot is responsible for supervising all persons onboard in carrying out their assigned duties.
5.1.10 The Pilot is responsible for maintaining all safety, lifesaving and PPE equipment aboard the vessel. The Pilot shall ensure the vessel is properly equipped; the equipment is kept ready for use and is inspected and checked as prescribed in the Safety Management System.
5.1.11 The Pilot shall ensure that all crewmembers are properly trained in the use of the firefighting and lifesaving equipment and all crewmembers are properly trained in emergency response procedures to respond to various emergencies that may arise in the marine environment.
5.1.13 The Pilot must maintain company required logs, documentation and checklist as described in the Safety Management System.
Work Schedule:
The standard work schedule for a fleet Pilot is a rotation of days and night shifts that vary with the assigned vessel for not more than 12 hours per 24 hour period, except in an emergency.

The PIC has command of, and the responsibility for, the flight crew, passengers, cargo, the SAFE conduct of the flight, and provides guidance and coordinates the activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation. The PIC will adhere to proper Crew Resource Management (CRM) techniques and will digest input from all crewmembers prior to rendering a decision. Once rendered, the decision is to be regarded as final. No one, regardless of position, shall exert direct or indirect pressure to change the PIC's decision involving the safety or the conduct of the flight. The PIC will not be subject to coercion by any Reynolds Jet departmental managers or customers. Good judgment shall prevail at all times. If anyone determines that the PIC's decision or conduct of the flight is not proper, they shall abide by the PIC's decision and direct complaints and/or comments to the Director of Operations, insofar as such decisions shall not affect the safety of the flight.
The Pilot-in-Command (PIC) is accountable to the Chief Pilot for the safe conduct of assigned flights. The PIC is responsible for the operation, safety and security of the aircraft and the safety of all crewmembers, passengers and cargo on board. The PIC has the authority to refuse transportation of any person or object if their carriage poses any risk to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants. Assumes the duties and responsibilities as follows:
Responsible to support and comply with all Reynolds Jet Safety and Quality Standards.
Retains the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft (14 CFR § 91.3). Makes decisions as necessary to the start, delay or cancellation of the flight, or deviation from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
Directs the activities of the SIC, if applicable, ensuring flight crewmembers understand fully and completely what duties they are expected to perform.
Participates proactively in the Safety Management System by actively seeking, identifying and reporting hazards and safety-risk management deficiencies.
Ensures that a flight will not be commenced if a flight crewmember is incapacitated from performing duties by any cause such as injury, sickness, fatigue, or the effects of any psychoactive substance.
Ensures that the flight will not be continued beyond the nearest suitable airfield when a flight crewmember's capacity to perform functions is significantly reduced by impairment of faculties from causes such as fatigue, sickness or lack of oxygen.
Determines the proper fuel, oil and oxygen requirements for each flight or series of flights.
Obtains briefing on the purpose of the flight, weather, NOTAMs, operating procedures and any special instructions, and plans flight assignments.
Prepares or supervises preparation of flight plan considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigational aids. Ensures a flight plan or other authorized flight locating procedures is followed on each flight.
Ensures that weather and aircraft performance conditions can be met appropriate to the CFR under which the flight is being conducted.
Ensures the aircraft is operated within all weight and balance limiltations and the necessary weight and balance is recorded in accordance with company procedures.
Reports all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents promptly to the Chief Pilot.
Maintains a current medical certificate as required by Reynolds Jet, and notifies the Chief Pilot if a medical (physical or mental) condition may impair their ability to perform the flight.
Ensures an aircraft preflight inspection and all aircraft equipment checks are performed properly per the aircraft flight manual, before each departure. Ensures emergency equipment such as life rafts, life vests, etc. as well as provisions for passenger comfort are aboard, and ensures all cargo is properly secured.
Ensures all passengers are briefed prior to every leg, regardless of whether the passengers were on previous legs, with the appropriate information for each phase of flight.
At the completion of each flight, ensures the preparation of flight logs, general declarations, and the reporting of mechanical irregularities. Ensures all maintenance write ups are communicated to the Director of Maintenance and that Flight Following is alerted to the current status of the aircraft.
Ensures the aircraft is airworthy, duly registered and that the documentation and operational information required by the aircraft manufacturer, FAA, and Reynolds Jet are onboard.
Ensures the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all aircraft stores and appropriate catering provisions on board for the safety and comfort of passengers and crew. Ensures catering is handled, prepared and stored in a way that protects the food against contamination.
Operates in accordance with the aircraft limitations and Reynolds Jet policies and procedures.
Reports, as soon as possible, to the appropriate air traffic services unit any hazardous weather or flight conditions encountered that are likely to affect the safety of other aircraft.
Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the General Operations Manual, Federal Aviation
Administration Regulations, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, and other instructions pertinent to assigned duties.
Acts as the Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) and Inflight Security Coordinator (ISC) for all flights conducted under the requirements of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Twelve Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP).
Completes all post flight duties as specified in this manual, including the recording of flight times and aircraft defects.
Notifies, per the Reynolds Jet SMS and ERP, the appropriate authorities in the case of an accident or incident and carries out the required follow up items as outlines in those manuals.
Ensure that a suspected communicable disease is reported promptly to air traffic control, in order to facilitate provision for the presence of any special medical personnel and equipment necessary for the management of public health risks on arrival.
Submits a report to the designated local authority following an act of unlawful interference.
The Pilot in Command may delegate these functions to subordinates, but may not delegate the responsibility for those functions.
