Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Apprentice Lineman C assists the Journeyman Lineman and the Foreman while in training and learning the trade. Responsible for performing work related to the construction and maintain of poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity. This position supports and learns from the Lineman team and works with other personnel from the department.

* Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution of electrical or power lines.
* Provide technical skills needed for the operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services for the consumer, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
* Provide for connecting and disconnecting, installing and removal, moving and transferring of various electrical devices on customer facilities, i.e. transformers, transformer banks, regulators, switches, switching devices, capacitor banks, etc.
* Route or reroute power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures.
* Inspect and/or remove power lines that are damaged.
* Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and other operations involved in setting or replacing poles.
* Perform line switching or sectionalizing, as directed.
* Investigate consumer complaints and make repairs to energized electrical distribution lines, as needed.
* Provide backup for Class B Apprentice Lineman and assist in completion of duties.
* Responsible for timely submission of all Apprentice Program required documentation.
* May troubleshoot electrical problems on customer equipment.
* Drive bucket truck to jobsite and maintain truck stock.
* Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

* High school diploma, or equivalent.
* 1 year of lineman experience.
* Valid Class A CDL is required.

Preferred

* 2 or more years of lineman experience.
* OSHA 10 Certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Essential Job Functions

Some of the basic functions of this position evolve into the below:

+ Ability to able to read maps (design), able to run assist wheel and figure 8 fiber

+ Can successfully climb poles and be productive

+ Build strand, lash cable and fiber and be able to handle basic pole transfers

+ Assemble stock I.E. snow shoes, bands

+ Must be able to load a lasher

+ Ability to be handle crew paperwork ie) production for the day and documentation

+ Familiar with, and understand the use of, all tools and stock

+ Stock truck with stock for the day's job assignment

+ Check oil and do VIR before every shift

+ Responsible for general organization of truck and cleanliness of truck both in and out

+ Accountable for the advancement and training of anyone on the levels below them

+ Conscientious regarding the safety of him/herself at times as well as the safety of every other crew member or individual on the job site

Required Qualifications

+ Show up for work daily and on time

+ Must be able to pass a Background Check, and Drug Screens

+ Must possess and continue to possess a valid driver's license and pass random driver's license screenings

+ Ability to make independent judgment and perform repetitive tasks

+ Regular contact with co-workers and customers

+ Within 90 days of start date, take and pass OSHA-10 Certification

+ Must be able to take and pass, and continue to pass a DOT Physical

+ Travel is requirement although it is mostly local; nights & weekends may be required depending on the current work. Job is performed throughout the New England area, although predominately in NH, MA and ME

+ Overtime should be expected

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity. Drive and operate a vehicle, and/or bucket. Environmental conditions: exposure is heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration and very loud noise. Requires the ability to sit for extended periods, stand, bend, walk, communicate via telephone, computer and/or face-to-face contact, vision to monitor, and use basic office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and fax machines regularly during the course of work.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina has an opening for an Apprentice Linemen for Electric Distribution Operations in the North/St Matthews Office. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground electric lines on our distribution system.

Responsibilities include:

* Regularly climb and work from utility poles and other tall structures
* Safely handle heavy/bulky equipment and materials
* Be available to respond to callouts and urgent needs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
* Work outside in inclement weather conditions
* Consistently adhere to safety rules to work in proximity of high and low voltage electric equipment
* Successfully complete the four (4) year apprenticeship training program which includes both written and hands-on instruction

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

* 0-2 years of directly related experience
* High School diploma or GED
* Valid driver's license with a good driving history
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) within six (6) months of hire
* Excellent physical condition, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to work long hours during emergency or storm restoration situations
* Be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime, and callout work
* Live within a 20-mile radius (or 30-minute drive) of the position's service territory/work location within 6 months of hire
* Be physically and mentally capable of climbing and working from utility poles

* Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Education Requirements
