    Overhead (OH) Utility Lineman- Class A The Class A Utility Lineman is a highly skilled professional responsible for the construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. This role requires a thorough understanding of electrical theory, safety protocols, and utility construction standards. Class A Lineman works independently or as part of a crew, often leading less experienced team members and ensuring safe and efficient operations in accordance with applicable regulations and standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Safely perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead distribution systems in accordance with work orders, job prints, and company standards. Climb poles and operate aerial lift devices to install or maintain overhead lines and equipment including poles, crossarms, insulators, transformers, capacitors, switches, and arrestors. Set poles, install anchors and guy wires, string and sag conductors, and properly phase and terminate energized lines. Perform live-line work using rubber glove and hot stick methods with proper PPE and line protection devices. Troubleshoot and repair faults in primary and secondary systems; replace cutout fuses, clear faulted circuits, and restore power. Identify and phase out lines and circuits accurately and safely. Understand and apply rigging techniques, proper use of handlines, knots, and load management for line work. Perform underground distribution tasks including pad-mount equipment installation, terminations, splicing, and fault locating. Ensure compliance with OSHA, NESC, and company safety protocols; uphold Minimum Approach Distance (MAD) and grounding requirements. Conduct tailboard safety meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs). Lead and mentor crew members in the absence of the foreman; provide direction and on-the-job training to apprentices and groundmen. Maintain and operate heavy equipment (e.g., digger derricks, bucket trucks) and tools in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner. Job Overview We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Asphalt Apprentice to join our paving crew. The Asphalt Apprentice will support asphalt paving operations by performing a variety of manual tasks related to the preparation, application, and finishing of asphalt surfaces for roads, parking lots, driveways, and other projects. This role requires physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with paver operators, roller operators, and foremen to ensure projects are completed efficiently and meet quality standards. Key Responsibilities Site Preparation: Clear debris, sweep surfaces, and prepare job sites by setting up traffic control devices, string lines, or grade stakes as directed. Material Handling: Shovel, rake, and spread hot mix asphalt to assist in filling voids, creating smooth transitions, and preparing the mat for compaction. Support Paving Operations: Load asphalt into paver hoppers, clean excess material from equipment, and assist in guiding trucks to ensure continuous material flow. Surface Finishing: Use hand tools (e.g., lutes, rakes, shovels) to smooth edges, fill low spots, and prepare asphalt for rolling; assist with applying sealants or tack coats as needed. Equipment Maintenance: Clean tools, pavers, and rollers at the end of shifts, and assist with fueling or minor upkeep tasks to keep equipment operational. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and stay alert to job site hazards, including moving equipment and hot asphalt. Team Support: Work under the direction of the foreman and assist other crew members to maintain a steady workflow and meet project deadlines. Seasonal Duties: Assist with snow removal and de-icing during winter months. Other: Additional miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Qualifications Experience: Prior experience in asphalt paving or construction is preferred but not required; willingness to learn on the job is essential. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions, and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Skills: Basic knowledge of hand tools and construction practices; ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team setting. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not mandatory. Driver's License: Valid driver's license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to tow trailers or transport equipment is a plus. Additional Requirements: Ability to pass a drug test as part of a drug-free workplace policy. Phone: Must have cell phone to clock in and out daily, log jobs, and follow other company communications. Working Conditions Work is performed outdoors at residential, commercial, or municipal properties, depending on the project. Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, heavy materials, and seasonal weather is common; some tasks may involve heights or confined spaces. Schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work during peak construction or landscaping seasons (spring through fall). Rare but possible multi-day, out-of-town trips, including long-distance travel, and overnight stays. Salary and Benefits Pay Range: Starting wage aligns with local non-union standards (apart from prevailing wage jobs) and is commensurate with experience, versatility, and additional skills like lawncare/chemical application. Experience in commercial, residential, and industrial electricity is preferred. TOOLS REQUIRED: Lineman's pliers with crimper, standard flat head and Phillips screwdrivers, wire strippers, razor knife, side cutters (pliers), hammer, tool pouch, voltage tester, plug tester, and a tape measure. A cordless drill is recommended but not required. WORKING CONDITIONS: May require working in all-weather elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) depending on job location and/or time of year. Must have required hand tools at all times while at work site (waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs.). Must be able to work from all ladder types (i.e. step ladders up to 16', "A" frame ladders, and extension ladders).
