The OHE Lineman A assists Journeyman Lineman and the Foreman while in training and learning the trade. Responsible for performing diversified work related to the construction and maintenance of poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. Sets a good example for newer apprentices by always following and teaching safe practices. This position supports the Line team and works with other personnel from the department.
Responsibilities
* Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution of electrical or power lines.
* Provide technical skills needed for the operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services for the consumer, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
* Provide for connecting and disconnecting, installing and removal, moving and transferring of various electrical devices on customers' facilities, i.e. transformers, transformer banks, regulators, switches, switching devices, capacitor banks, etc.
* Route or reroute power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures.
* Inspect and/or remove power lines that are damaged.
* Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and other such operations involved in setting or replacing poles.
* Perform line switching or sectionalizing, as directed.
* Assist in on-the-job training of apprentices and other crew members in maintenance and construction of power lines.
* Responsible for timely submission of all Apprentice Program required documentation.
* May troubleshoot electrical problems on customer equipment.
* Drive bucket truck to jobsite and maintain truck stock.
* Investigate consumer complaints and make repairs to energized electrical distribution lines, as needed.
* Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma, or equivalent.
* 3 years of lineman experience.
* Valid Class A CDL is required.
Preferred Qualifications
* 5 or more years of experience.
* OSHA 10 Certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. **Responsibilities**
As a Journeyman Lineman you will install, maintain and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment, both overhead and underground, while utilizing line trucks, aerial boom, lifts and wire pulling equipment. Maintenance of lines and services will require pole climbing, hot sticking, and working out of truck mounted bucket lifts to construct, repair or maintain line equipment or string, splice and sag wire on live or dead circuits. Operates switches, cutouts and uses grounding devices to work on de-energized lines and equipment. You may train and direct the work of a trainee in the trade.
**For qualified candidates, the Company will offer up to a $20,000 relocation award if required moving related expenses are needed.
**Requirements**
+ Completion of a formal training program for a Journeyman Lineman. Must meet examining board review of skills and experience.
+ Must own, or be able to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
+ Two to four years experience as a Journeymen Lineman. Must live within service district.
This position may require a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
Physical Demands
The job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead. Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.

General
JOB SUMMARY:
The Journeyman Lineman is responsible for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems as well as substation construction and maintenance. The position works under the direction of the crew Foreman. This work will be performed in both the industrial and utility environment.
Job duties and responsibilities
Job duties listed below will be performed under the direction of the Superintendent, Foreman or a designated Lineman.
- Constructs and installs overhead and underground distribution lines as well as substations and plant electrical systems. Examples of duties include digging holes and trenches, setting poles, stringing wire, placing equipment and testing systems.
- Performs work on energized and de-energized lines, daily. Performs this work in darkness, as needed.
- Operates heavy and light equipment, including digger derricks, aerial lift devices and backhoes. Works with various tools of the trade.
- Participates in the instruction and development of Lineman Trainees and Apprentice Linemen. Leads by example.
- Actively and positively participates in department meetings, safety meetings and tailboards.
- Performs after-hours duties, as required. Responds to callouts in a timely manner. Works scheduled and unscheduled overtime, as needed or as required.
- Locates underground cable as requested by customers.
- Customer service: Interacts with public during the normal course of business, in the Operations Center and in the field. Behaves in a courteous, professional manner.
- Professional behavior: Understands and follows company expectations regarding appropriate dress, attendance, punctuality, scheduled and unscheduled time off, and appropriate use of time, equipment and resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience :
- High School diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an apprentice program and attainment of electrical line workers journey level status A DEFINATE PLUS.
- Two years of journey level work experience is preferred but not required.
- Thorough understanding of electrical theory and the safety regulations and work methods associated with electrical line work.
- Understanding of line construction and maintenance.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate the tools of the trade and the heavy and light equipment associated with electrical line work.
- Ability to possess a valid Texas State Driver’s License and Class B CDL.
- Capability of earning a CPR/First Aid card and willingness to perform CPR or first aid.
- Ability to communicate in an effective manner, demonstrating job knowledge.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
