The phlebotomist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients, and to provide the care needed as described in the Laboratory Policies & Procedures. Can frequently and consistently make sound judgements. Must be organized, multi-tasker, team player, flexible, and a critical thinker. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Collect correct blood samples, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples. Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient's expectation. Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures. Provides age appropriate care. Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents. Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results. Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory. Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Maintains records of tests and blood samples taken. Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory. Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of: organizations and specialists. Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical,medical and allied health staff. May perform special tests such as waived testing. Maintains strict quality control for procedures. Orients and mentors new staff members. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
