The Deputy County Attorney - Criminal performs complex legal, professional, and administrative work. The work is performed in accordance with established standards and practices of the legal profession, state and federal law, and County policy. Under policies and procedures established by the Cascade County Attorney, the Deputy County Attorney (Criminal) initiates and prosecutes criminal cases through final disposition and provides legal counsel and advice on matters of criminal law and performs other related duties as required or assigned. Must be able to pass background check and meet and maintain implemented or required security approvals for employment with the Cascade County Attorney's Office.
*ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
The Deputy County Attorney (Criminal) prosecutes adult criminal offenders through final disposition in Justice and District Courts, may also prosecute child abuse and neglect cases, bring involuntary mental health commitments, prosecute child support enforcement, initiate guardianship/conservatorship proceedings, prosecute youth offenders in Youth Court and attend Drug Treatment Court, reviews investigative reports from law enforcement officers, makes determination regarding charges to be filed, whom to prosecute and when to decline prosecution, drafts and files charging documents, coordinates, plans, prepares and executes jury and judge trials, communicates regularly with victims and law enforcement regarding case status, prepares for and attends various court hearings such as arraignments, omnibus, bail, suppression, change of plea, sentencing, revocation, etc., interviews and prepares witnesses for courtroom proceedings, prepares pleadings, briefs and other legal documents for filing with the court, responds to various written and oral motions and arguments made by defense counsel, prepares jury instructions and necessary trial and/or hearing exhibits, must be able to communicate well with witnesses and victims of all ages, social, economic and educational backgrounds, negotiates plea agreements, assists law enforcement with and drafts search warrants and subpoenas, conducts legal research and prepares legal briefs, memoranda and other documents, provides legal advice to various County officials, outside agencies and law enforcement, drafts legal opinions, researches and interprets statutes, codes and ordinances, negotiates with concerned parties to resolve contested issues, prepares findings of fact and conclusions of law and drafts proposed orders, prepares arguments orally and in writing, must serve as “on call” attorney on a rotational basis to law enforcement. Full-time employees are prohibited from engaging in private practice, except for representation of their immediate family.

OPLA is the largest legal program in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), employing over 1,700 attorneys nationwide. In addition to Headquarters in Washington, D.C., there are 24 OPLA Field Locations in more than 60 cities throughout the United States. Pursuant to statute, OPLA serves as the exclusive representative of DHS in removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review litigating cases involving criminal aliens, terrorists, human rights violators, and other priority aliens. OPLA also provides a full range of legal services to all ICE programs and offices.
OPLA attorneys provide legal advice and prudential counsel to ICE personnel on their law enforcement authorities, legal liability under the Federal Tort Claims Act and Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents of Fed. Bureau of Narcotics, 403 U.S. 388 (1971), the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, ethics, and a range of administrative law issues, such as contract, fiscal and employment law. OPLA attorneys represent the agency before the Merit Systems Protection Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Contract Board of Appeals. OPLA attorneys support the Department of Justice in the prosecution of ICE cases and in the defense of civil cases against ICE.
The selected attorney will immediately be given significant responsibilities and will be expected to craft legally supportable policies to address the needs of agency operational components. The attorney will be expected to routinely provide timely legal opinions to ICE officers and agents, management, and leadership within OPLA, ICE, and DHS's Office of the General Counsel Headquarters. The selected attorney will be required to assess litigation risk and provide litigation support to the Department of Justice.
As a General Attorney, you will perform the following duties at the full performance level:
* Represent the United States Government in removal proceedings before immigration judges, frequently involving applicants for asylum or for other forms of relief under immigration laws;
* Provide expert legal counsel in the interpretation of highly complex immigration and customs laws including comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of statutory, regulatory and case authorities;
* Prepare cases for litigation by conducting legal research; prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, stipulations, affidavits, and other legal documents;
* Prepare witnesses for litigation; conduct direct examination and cross examination; present oral arguments advancing ICE's legal position; negotiate the disposition of cases with opposing counsel; and advise the Chief Counsel and/or Deputy Chief Counsel on cases potentially warranting deferred action or other exercise of prosecutorial discretion;
* Construct litigation reports for United States Attorney's Offices on civil matters pending in the federal courts involving ICE, and serve as liaison between Department of Justice's Office of Immigration Litigation and the local Enforcement and Removal Field Office on immigration matters pending in the Circuit Courts of Appeals;
* Provide legal advice and support to the other ICE components and litigation support to United States Attorney's Offices in immigration and/or customs matters. The position also involves appellate advocacy before the Board of Immigration Appeals, including the preparation of briefs and other pleadings.

General Liability Practice Group
At QPWB, our General Liability Practice Group is composed of seasoned attorneys dedicated to assisting a diverse range of clients, including employers, carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insureds, in the defense of General Liability actions. From initial claims handling through mediation, arbitration, trial, and appeal, we provide comprehensive legal representation tailored to the unique needs of each client. As an Attorney specializing in General Liability, your role will involve:
Reviewing and preparing summaries of medical records to effectively advocate for clients.
Drafting motions and attending hearings to represent clients in court.
Preparing clients for depositions and attending depositions as needed.
Drafting initial reports, interim reports, pre-trial reports, trials, and appellate activity.
Responding to discovery requests and drafting discovery-related motions.
Regularly attending court appearances to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Compensation:
$115,000 - $179,680 annually. This range is a reliable estimate of the base salary plus projected bonuses and billable hour commission that this individual is expected to receive.
