Stevens Law Office is seeking a motivated attorney or experienced paralegal to join our general practice team beginning December 1, 2025. This is a full-time position (35-40 hours per week) with a starting salary ranging from $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience.
Our firm maintains a broad general practice, including real estate, estate planning, probate, civil litigation, and business law. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a varied caseload in a fast-paced but collegial small-firm environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, and client-focused service are essential.
Responsibilities include:
* Drafting and reviewing legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
* Conducting legal research and assisting with case preparation
* Communicating with clients, courts, and other professionals
* Managing files and deadlines efficiently
* Supporting attorneys in all aspects of transactional and litigation matters
Qualifications:
* For attorney applicants: J.D. and admission (or pending admission) to the Vermont Bar
* For paralegal applicants: minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience preferred
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic case management software
* Proficiency in Westlaw or LexisNexis for legal research
* Ability to communicate effectively with clients and maintain professionalism in all interactions
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities
Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions
Handle federal court litigation, with a primary focus on Writs of Mandamus and Administrative Procedure Act (APA) lawsuits.
Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Manage workload of cases
Visit and conduct an intake with detained individuals at centers.
Prepare diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions
Review immigration applications/packets and make any necessary adjustments
Present to and work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes in immigration law
Meet with potential clients for strategic immigration consultations and determine necessary strategy
Develop strategy and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony
Provide legal analysis for clients to determine any possible case benefits
Prepare and submitting legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases
Qualifications
At least 3-5 years of Immigration Law Experience
A team player who is open to helping, strategizing, and working with your fellow associates
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
2+ years of experience in immigration law, with at least 1 year handling Mandamus and APA litigation preferred.
Interpersonal skills of the highest caliber
Record of moving legal cases forward and an ability to manage a caseload
Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian, EOIR, Detained, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications
Experience with Case Management Software is preferred

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Attorney Auditor reviews legal and non-legal invoices on behalf of our clients for services provided to insurance carriers, corporate legal departments and government entities. The auditor will apply client specified billing guidelines and/or Generally Accepted Principles and Standards (“GAPS”).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to understand and apply clients' billing guidelines and standards.
Work with client to develop or enhance billing protocol.
Ability to effectively communicate with law firms to discuss compliance with client's billing requirements.
Effectively manage invoice workflow.
Ability to work independently to finalize and approve legal invoices for payment.
Consistently meet company established performance standards for production.
Work with other team members to jointly meet production objectives/goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
Five (5) years of insurance defense or complex litigation experience is required.
