Little, Brown and Leadership

Alvina Ling is a Vice President, Editor-in-Chief at Little Brown and Company and Vice President, Editor-in-Chief at Hachette Book Group and is based in New York City, New York. She has worked as Bookseller at BARNES & NOBLE INC, Editorial Intern at Charlesbridge Publishing, and Executive Editorial Director at Little Brown Books for Young Readers. Alvina studied at 國立臺灣師範大學 National Taiwan Normal University between 1996 and 1997 and University of California Berkeley between 1992 and 1996.

Joe Mangan joined Hachette Book Group (HBG) as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in February 2014. In this capacity, Joe is responsible for the company’s publishing operations, as well as its corporate strategy. Joe oversees managing editorial, publishing operations, fulfillment and distribution, facilities and procurement, information technology, third party publisher services, and strategic planning.

Prior to joining HBG, Joe spent ten years as the Chief Operating Officer of Perseus Books Group, where he oversaw all aspects of the company’s sales and operations, and helped set and execute the company’s strategy.

Joe spent the first twenty years of his professional career consulting to companies pursuing opportunities at the intersection of strategy and technology. Joe was a Managing Director at Razorfish, an ebusiness innovation company where he was responsible for all of the company’s activities in the Northeastern United States. Prior to that, Joe was a Principal at Booz Allen and Hamilton where he specialized in advising media and entertainment companies facing significant transformational challenges. Prior to that, Joe worked as a computer consultant where he helped companies, large and small, take better advantage of the technologies available to them.

Joe Mangan holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Computer Science from the State University of New York.

Stephen Mubarek became the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hachette Book Group, Inc. (HBG) in March 2015. He also serves as a member of the Executive Management Board of HBG.

Stephen originally joined the Company in August 1999 as Vice President & Controller of HBG, when it was previously Time Warner Trade Publishing. He was later promoted to Senior Vice President & Controller and then to Senior Vice President of Finance.

He is a Certified Public Accountant, and began his career with Ernst & Whinney in Connecticut, which subsequently became Ernst & Young. He later served as Corporate Controller and CFO of a large music distributor.

Stephen currently serves on the American Association of Publishers (AAP) Mass Market Affidavit Returns Subcommittee. He lives in Concord, Massachusetts with his wife, Tamara. They have two children.

Wibke Grütjen is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Hachette Book Group. Wibke

joined Hachette Book Group in March 2019.

Wibke started her career in 2001 as an Editor of ArtBibliographies Modern in Oxford, England. After moving to the US in 2003, she worked in television production for networks including WETA, ABC News, and The History Channel. She returned to England in 2007 and took on the position of Head of Research for Penguin UK. In 2010, Wibke and her family settled in New York, where she joined Macmillan Publishers’ digital marketing division.

At HBG, Wibke is responsible for the development of the company’s marketing strategy, marketing technology and analytics. She works closely with the marketing divisions of all HBG imprints to deliver effective marketing campaigns that are informed by market and audience insights and contribute to the long-term development and growth of HBG’s relationship with readers.

Wibke is a graduate of Oxford University and the Free University in Berlin and lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
