A Day in the Life: Architectural research is about “problem seeking” as well as “problem solving.” LS3P's summer Research & Innovation Internship is designed for curiosity and exploration. Ideal candidates will be graduate-level students with a desire to immerse themselves in a topic related to architecture that enriches communities in the Southeast. The Research & Innovation Intern will report to LS3P's Practice Research Strategist, Innovation Leader, and other relevant specialists to complete a summer research & innovation project. Over the course of 10 weeks, this individual will develop a question, review existing literature and precedents, conduct an investigation or propose a design solution, and present findings. Research topics that touch on elementary education, healthcare, mixed use development, and public transit facilities may have immediate project impacts, though other topics at the intersection of the human experience and the built environment will be considered. Possible sources for inspiration include the AIA's Framework for Design Excellence, the AIA's Research Agenda, and LS3P's vision statement. Your Strengths As An Intern: Curiosity Flexibility Research skills and experience Strong organization and time management skills Excellent written and graphic communication skills. The topic and scope of work will be tailored to the applicant, so appropriate skills for the proposed project will be required. What You Bring To The Table: Graduate-level candidates in architecture, interiors, and planning will be given priority, but undergraduate candidates with research experience will also be considered. Graphic design skills are helpful but not required Candidates should approach the process with research ideas in mind. Location: Raleigh, NC. Other locations will be considered. The Senior Transportation Planner will work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and must have excellent communication, data management, and documentation skills. This position will serve as a Project Manager, taking a leadership role in management, production, and quality assurance/quality control procedures. In addition to working with existing clients on the state, regional, and local levels, the candidate will support business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new clients to grow our existing practice. The Senior Transportation Planner will bring innovative solutions to our client's problems and lead transportation planning projects of varying size and scope. Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, or related field from an accredited university. Qualifications: * Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the utility coordination industry, preferably NCDOT experience. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook. * Proficiency in reading and understanding civil transportation engineering design plans. * Proficiency in reading and understanding utility installation and adjustment plans. * Ability to transition easily between multiple projects and tasks. * Basic MicroStation/Open Roads experience (required). * Position requires strong communication, both verbal and written, organization skills, attention to detail, scheduling and problem-solving skills. * An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must * HS Diploma. * Associate's degree is a plus. * Valid Driver License and an acceptable motor vehicle record.     The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Senior Utilities Coordinator to join our Infrastructure Practice in the Charlotte or Raleigh, NC office. As a Senior Utilities Coordinator, you will perform utility coordination duties in planning, designing, contacting, and directing utility owners' relocation efforts as it pertains to proposed roadway and bridge improvement projects. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Assist with the identification, communication, and resolution of utility conflicts on various types of infrastructure projects. Develop Utilities by Others (UbO) Plans and utility designs based upon input from utility owners and project manager. Type, format, and organize project documents, reports, specifications, and correspondence. Create and maintain paper and electronic files. Apply company Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and procedures. Apply NCDOT Quality Assurance (QA) Quality Control (QC) guidelines and procedures. Assist with and conduct meetings and presentations. Assist with the management and coordination of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations, schedules, and submittals. Frequent verbal/written communication between project managers, clients, and utility owners to ensure project schedules are met and are compliant with federal, state, and local laws, in addition to all regulations required by the client. Work independently, and with project team, to meet client's needs/objectives. Review and perform QA/QC of utility company agreements, plans, specifications, cost estimates and invoices submitted by utility companies to assure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and requirements. Perform utility records research, obtaining project utility company contacts, preparing contact ledgers and utility conflict tracking reports/matrices. Assist with and prepare client deliverables, utility exhibits, project guides, project reviews, project invoices and expense reports as needed. Travel for project site visits is required. Qualifications: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the utility coordination industry, preferably NCDOT experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook. Proficiency in reading and understanding civil transportation engineering design plans. Proficiency in reading and understanding utility installation and adjustment plans. Ability to transition easily between multiple projects and tasks. Basic MicroStation/Open Roads experience (required). Position requires strong communication, both verbal and written, organization skills, attention to detail, scheduling and problem-solving skills. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must HS Diploma. Associate's degree is a plus. Develop remediations for work performed by Brasfield and Gorrie. Review proposed remediations for work performed by subcontractors. * Perform design assist and value engineering reviews of structural systems, including foundations, framing systems, and delegated components. * Evaluate existing and proposed permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions including pump trucks, cranes, lifts and other equipment on structures. * Prepare and seal appropriate analysis, calculations, details, plans, drawings, quantities, specifications, and reports as required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties above. * Perform quality control reviews of the plans, calculations, and other documentation prepared by other engineers employed by Brasfield & Gorrie or by external consultant engineers. * Develop staff work plans and provide daily supervision of staff. * Mentor and train staff.
