To remove birds from conveyor by their feet and hang them in shackles on a moving line at a specified rate.

**Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

Work on a line and retrieve birds from a conveyor by the feet. Holding a bird in weight ranging in weight from 2 to 6 lbs. by both feet, hang bird in shackles by feet on a moving line at a reach of approximately 32 inches at a rate of 28 bpm. Ensure that birds are placed in shackles properly to prevent bruising or damage birds. This position requires regular rotation. Adhere to all safety requirements including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tagout procedures and Process Safety Management related matters.

**Minimum Education**

High School or equivalent not required but beneficial.

**Experience Requirements**

Must have previous Live Hang Experience.

**Experience Preferred**

Experience in poultry processing/manufacturing environment preferred.

**Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements**

When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to dust, feathers and all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors 10ppm and chlorine less than 20 ppm. Able to stand for several hours. Work may include lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, bending, pushing boxes on conveyor assembly.

LIVE HANGERS

At Pilgrim's, Safety Is A Condition, which means the safety of our team members comes first - always.

We have implemented safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are working to ensure social distancing within our facility. We have installed physical barriers throughout our facility such as plexi -glass or plastic barriers between team member work stations. Each day, temperature screens are performed for each employee and visitor before entering the facility. Purpose:

The Live Hanger is responsible for firmly inserting both feet of the chicken into moving shackles using tools (to include knives), manual labor, and equipment provided in accordance with USDA and Pilgrim's Company product standards and procedures

Responsibilities:

Team member will place a live bird into the every 6th shackle with both feet inserted firmly.

The 6th hanger will catch and rehang any birds that have been hung by only one leg while hanging their own shackle.

The 1st hanger is responsible for moving the belt forward to bring in birds.

Process product according to operating procedures and quality/quantity expectations.

Observes equipment operation, notifying appropriate personnel of any malfunctions and/or safety issues/concerns. Observes all company personnel, quality, safety, and food safety policies.

Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you work effectively and cooperatively with customers, clients, co-workers, and leadership teams.

Follow all company animal welfare guidelines.

Other duties as assigned to include rotation with other positions within the department such as Cage dumper, Yard Jockey, Floor person, Backup killer, Cage loader and Picking room attendant.

Basic Qualifications:

• Ability to comprehend simple instructions

• Ability to apply common sense.

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Ability to work in cool temperatures (around 40 degrees in the winter ) and hot temperatures (around 100 degrees in the summer).

• Ability to stand and use hands for 8-11 hours per day

• Ability to multitask and work quickly

• Must be a team player and be willing to work close to other employees at some stations. (Less than 3 feet apart.)

• Must have good communication skills.

• Good hand and eye coordination required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
