The Role:
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Care Companion to join our service center team at Carrot in Des Moines Iowa. At Carrot, we firmly believe in providing accessible, inclusive, and high-quality fertility and family-forming care to all individuals. As a Care Companion, you will have the unique opportunity to guide our members through their family-forming journeys, starting from their initial interaction with Carrot. This role is primarily phone and email support, and you will be an integral part of the team. You will also have the opportunity to work with members via video chat, and other communication avenues.
In this position, your main responsibility will be to provide outstanding customer service using your excellent communication and empathy skills. You will effectively address their questions and concerns, ensuring they receive the guidance they need. You will play a crucial role in shaping our members' experience, helping them navigate and achieve their family-forming goals.
By joining our service center team as a Care Companion, you will contribute to Carrot's mission of inclusivity and accessibility in fertility and family-forming services, making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and couples.
This is an hybrid position in West Des Moines, IA. Training will take place over the first 6-8 weeks, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST. The regular schedules are listed below:
10:00 AM - 9:00 PM CST Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday
5:00 AM - 4:00 PM CST Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
The Team:
The Care Companion team is composed of compassionate individuals with experience in the healthcare industry who have completed foundational training in reproductive health in addition to ongoing learning in the topics of adoption, fertility treatment, fertility preservation, donor assisted reproduction, gestational carrier arrangements, LGBTQ+ care and more. The Care Companion team supports all legal paths to parenthood and works with members living in the US and 50+ countries (and growing) around the world.
Our Care Companions are member-facing and truly represent Carrot, guiding our members on how to utilize their Carrot benefit most effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
1-3 years of experience working in a direct customer service, healthcare, or client-facing role.
Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to empathetically support a diverse member population through all paths to parenthood
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous call center experience and understanding of call center KPIs
Experience working at a fast-growing tech company or digital health company
Experience with Zendesk or similar CRM platforms
Past experience in the family-forming space: fertility care, adoption, donor assisted reproduction,and/ or gestational carrier arrangements
Bilingual skills
Compensation:

Assist residents as needed in dressing appropriately, encouraging usual and appropriate clothing.
Make residents' beds and change linens as needed, clean up room and closet, picking up unnecessary articles and arranging room neatly.
Assist residents requiring total or partial assist with dining, set up food for residents needing assistance.
Follow medication administration protocols as identified for each individual resident.
Answer emergency calls promptly.
Assist residents with bedpan, urinal, and bedside commode or to bathroom as needed and/or as directed. Check and change incontinent brief every two hours or more frequently if needed.
Take and give notice in writing, vital signs (temp, pulse, respiration & blood pressure), heights and weights as requested, report abnormal or unusual signs to nurse or Executive Director. Report skin breakdown, pressure sores and changes in residents' physical/mental condition to nurse or executive Director immediately.
Clean wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, bedpans and urinals per schedule.
Report unusual color or odor of excretions (urine, drainage, stool or sputum) before discarding it.
Assist in the transport, transfer, ambulation, frequent positioning, provide ROM to residents and all other ADL's as assigned. Use measures that ensure resident and associate safety. Request assistance when lifting, turning and moving residents, using lifting devices when needed. Transport to activities, meals and appointments as requested.
Help maintain personal dignity of each resident by ensuring privacy and treating them with respect. Understand and follow Resident Bill of Rights.
Provide, direct and participate in activity programming and activity-based care for the residents.
Assist in admission, transfer and discharge of residents including ensuring rooms are ready for admit and assist resident with belongings upon discharge.
Complete Daily Assignment sheets during shift and according to instructions using only authorized abbreviations.
Identify resident before providing care.
Follow universal precautions and isolation procedures for infection control.
Maintain all service areas in clean and orderly condition and keep halls clear of equipment.
Report all accidents or incidents observed on the shift they occurred.
Report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately.
Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper condition.
Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room/heating units, etc.
Clean, wash, sanitize and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
Clean floors, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting solutions.
Discard, waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner.
Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
Collect, launder and return clothing of residents per identified schedules.
Notify the Program Director or Executive Director of any problems with residents' apartments.
Prepare and assist in serving meals in accordance with the menu and recipes.
Adhere to residents' special diet restrictions.
Provide proper food transportation, plate-up and portion control.
Ensure that residents and guests receive high quality food in a timely fashion.
Interact with residents daily to ascertain their views, suggestions and concerns on meals served.
Assist as needed with washing dishes, silverware, pots, pans and equipment after each meal.
Perform tasks as assigned on cleaning schedule.
Maintain and record proper temperature controls, food storage and food rotation.
Perform all side work and setup/breakdown duties as assigned.
Meet regularly with Program Director regarding menus, service, procedures, etc.
Report any unusual incidents to the Program Director, Executive Director or Manager on duty.
Respond and assist with any resident, staff, guest or campus emergency.
Assist in the dining room to ensure that food is served properly, and cleanup is prompt and thorough.
General Working Conditions:
This position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and push/pull equipment frequently. The employee is expected to possess good organization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. The employee must be compassionate and empathetic. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may frequently bend, reach, grasp, and climb. The employee may need to squat and kneel. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.

Request assistance when lifting, turning and moving residents, using lifting devices when needed. Transport to activities, meals and appointments as requested.
Help maintain personal dignity of each resident by ensuring privacy and treating them with respect. Understand and follow Resident Bill of Rights.
Provide, direct and participate in activity programming and activity-based care for the residents.
Assist in admission, transfer and discharge of residents including ensuring rooms are ready for admit and assist resident with belongings upon discharge.
Complete Daily Assignment sheets during shift and according to instructions using only authorized abbreviations.
Identify resident before providing care.
Follow universal precautions and isolation procedures for infection control.
Maintain all service areas in clean and orderly condition and keep halls clear of equipment.
Report all accidents or incidents observed on the shift they occurred.
Report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately.
Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper condition.
Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room/heating units, etc.

Assist residents requiring total or partial assist with dining, set up food for residents needing assistance.
Follow medication administration protocols as identified for each individual resident.
Answer emergency calls promptly.
Assist residents with bedpan, urinal, and bedside commode or to bathroom as needed and/or as directed. Check and change incontinent brief every two hours or more frequently if needed.
Take and give notice in writing, vital signs (temp, pulse, respiration & blood pressure), heights and weights as requested, report abnormal or unusual signs to nurse or Executive Director. Report skin breakdown, pressure sores and changes in residents' physical/mental condition to nurse or executive Director immediately.
Clean wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, bedpans and urinals per schedule.
Report unusual color or odor of excretions (urine, drainage, stool or sputum) before discarding it.
Assist in the transport, transfer, ambulation, frequent positioning, provide ROM to residents and all other ADL's as assigned. Use measures that ensure resident and associate safety. Request assistance when lifting, turning and moving residents, using lifting devices when needed. Transport to activities, meals and appointments as requested.
Help maintain personal dignity of each resident by ensuring privacy and treating them with respect. Understand and follow Resident Bill of Rights.
Provide, direct and participate in activity programming and activity-based care for the residents.
Assist in admission, transfer and discharge of residents including ensuring rooms are ready for admit and assist resident with belongings upon discharge.
Complete Daily Assignment sheets during shift and according to instructions using only authorized abbreviations.
Identify resident before providing care.
Follow universal precautions and isolation procedures for infection control.
Maintain all service areas in clean and orderly condition and keep halls clear of equipment.
Report all accidents or incidents observed on the shift they occurred.
Report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately.
Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper condition.
Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room/heating units, etc.
Clean, wash, sanitize and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
Clean floors, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting solutions.
Discard, waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner.
Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
Collect, launder and return clothing of residents per identified schedules.
Notify the Program Director or Executive Director of any problems with residents' apartments.
Prepare and assist in serving meals in accordance with the menu and recipes.
Adhere to residents' special diet restrictions.
Provide proper food transportation, plate-up and portion control.
Ensure that residents and guests receive high quality food in a timely fashion.
Interact with residents daily to ascertain their views, suggestions and concerns on meals served.
Assist as needed with washing dishes, silverware, pots, pans and equipment after each meal.
Perform tasks as assigned on cleaning schedule.
Maintain and record proper temperature controls, food storage and food rotation.
Perform all side work and setup/breakdown duties as assigned.
Meet regularly with Program Director regarding menus, service, procedures, etc.
Report any unusual incidents to the Program Director, Executive Director or Manager on duty.
Respond and assist with any resident, staff, guest or campus emergency.
Assist in the dining room to ensure that food is served properly, and cleanup is prompt and thorough.
General Working Conditions:
This position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and push/pull equipment frequently. The employee is expected to possess good organization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. The employee must be compassionate and empathetic. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may frequently bend, reach, grasp, and climb. The employee may need to squat and kneel. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
