Matthew Barba
Placester

Matt Barba is the Co-Founder and CTO of Placester, a real estate marketing platform. He was the founding CEO until January, 2018 when Omar Hussain joined. To date, the company has raised over $100M in total funding, and is backed by leading investors, including NEA, Romulus Capital and Techstars. While in college at Boston University, Matt pursued a real estate license and began his career as an agent in 2008. During that time, he developed a keen interest in real estate technology. An avid coder since childhood, Matt recognized a significant opportunity to improve the way real estate data was being shared with home buyers and sellers, as well as the publications promoting property listings. Together with CTO Frederick Townes, Matt founded Placester in January 2011 to close the gap between real estate professionals, publishers, and consumers. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 Matt was named to the Swanepoel POWER 200 (SP200) list of the top 200 real estate industry leaders in North America. In addition to his background in finance and entrepreneurship, Matt also brings engineering experience to his post at Placester as the author of Builder, the most widely used real estate plugin on WordPress. Matt graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance in 2009. Prior to Placester, Matt was a real estate agent at Modern Real Estate in Allston, MA, which is where he found his passion for transforming the way real estate data was being shared. From there, he developed a clear vision for improvement in the industry which lead to the founding of Placester.
