Llano County company history timeline

1855

The first permanent settlers came about 1855, when the soil was first cultivated.

1856

Llano county was created by the act of February 1, 1856.

1875

Until 1875 this was really the Texas frontier, and the distance from central markets and the difficulties of transportation by wagon limited the production of the county chiefly to live stock, which could be driven to market.

1880

In 1880 the cotton crop was about 2,000 bales, and since railroad facilities have been obtained to transport such products there has been a steady increase of diversified crops.

1900

The county has excellent public schools, the high school building at Llano being constructed of granite at a cost of $25,000." The other towns in the county, with population in 1900, are: Kingsland, 194; Valley Spring, 131; Castell, 112; Field Creek, 111.

Louis H. Bruhl founded the drugstore in 1900.

The fire of '23 was the final chapter in the Algona's life. It was used by The Texas Military Institute for a period before being damaged in a 1900 tornado.

1922

Operated by the Llano County Historical Society, the museum is located in the historic Bruhl Drugstore Building, which was built in 1922.

1923

Rooms With a Past: Llano suffered a fire in 1923 that destroyed a former landmark hotel on the north side of the river - The Hotel Algona.

1965

In 1965, the A.H. Bruhl family gave it to the historical society.
