Lodge Cast Iron company history timeline

1910

Joseph Lodge and his wife settled in the town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee in 1896 and there he opened his first foundry. It was a growing business until disaster struck in May of 1910 and it burned to the ground.

Since incorporating in 1910, Lodge Manufacturing has had a board of directors that meets four times a year.

When Blacklock Foundry burnt down in 1910, he rebuilt it a few blocks away and renamed it Lodge Manufacturing Company.

1950

The foundry was updated in 1950 from a hand pouring operation for each item manufactured to a technological advanced automated molding process.

1973

In 1973, Lodge created its first logo.

2002

In 2002, pre-seasoned cookware was introduced, eliminating the hassle of its unseasoned counterparts.

2005

The elegant L-Series was introduced in 2005, earning greatly positive reviews from Fine Cooking and Good Housekeeping magazines, test kitchens and individual customers.

2011

In 2011, Lodge launched two new cookware lines.

2016

When Lodge retires completely, Mike Otterman will become the company’s first non-family CEO. Otterman, currently president and COO, has been with the company since 2016, when he came on as SVP of sales and marketing.

2017

Toward the end of 2017, operations began in a newly built, 127,000 square foot foundry, nicknamed 3rd Street Foundry.

His cousin Bob Kellermann, also 67, retired from his position as chairman emeritus at the end of 2017.

2019

Lodge plans to step down as CEO at the end of 2019.
