The cattle are brought in from summer range beginning in September with the weaning of yearlings. The rest of the cattle are brought in off summer range beginning in November. Cattle are put back out on summer range after branding, around May 15th. There is no need for additional labor throughout the summer months of June and July as cattle are feeding on range grass and drinking from automatic water troughs and natural water sources. During this time we have no need for seasonal labor.The General Farm Livestock Worker will be required to operate equipment to feed 500 head of livestock daily only during seasonal months when cattle are not feeding on range grass. Operate equipment. General mechanical maintenance of equipment used to feed livestock and for snow removal when needed.Calving begins in March and includes night calving - 12-hour shifts (6pm to 6am) to check on mother cows every few hours to determine delivery time and help with deliveries.Drive ranch vehicle to pick up necessary parts and tools in town. Driver's License required. Drive tractor and Feed Truck.Fencing: Begins in August as we prepare to move cattle in from summer range and continues on as ?as needed? basis throughout the season. Must also be willing to assist in other areas of the farm as needed; such as picking rocks, running parts, tearing down/repair/build fence; grounds maintenance and facility cleaning and maintenance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs; be on their feet or on a tractor throughout the day and must be willing to work up to 12-hour night shifts during calving in March. The job entails working with farm machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme cold, wind, heat, dust, rain, snow) and occasional exposure to poisonous snakes and predators. Extensive walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and long hours sitting and operating farm equipment is required. A minimum of 3 months of experience with livestock including calving is required.
