A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LOGISTICS CONSULTANT

As a Logistics Consultant, you are involved in sales, customer service, and the management of your customer’s freight needs. You collaborate with carrier partners and shippers alike, overseeing the full lifecycle of every shipment in your given book of business. By providing first in class customer service, you develop long-term relationships with customers. You manage the movement of your clients’ goods, ensuring that they are picked up, transported safely, and delivered on time according to the clients’ expectations. You function as the liaison between clients, carriers, shippers, and receivers.

In order to maintain market competitive pricing, you conduct contract negotiations. You collaborate with team members on pricing strategies and problem-solving. To build a portfolio of clients, you perform a high volume of “cold-calling.” Staying up to date on market conditions and technology through internal and external training is an essential component to your success. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A LOGISTICS CONSULTANT

• Bachelor’s degree
• Phone and email skills
• Ability and willingness to travel to meet with customers and potential customers

One year of prior sales experience is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Operational experience within the 3PL/logistics field would be a plus!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the team in preparing data requests for XFNs tailored to each project and anticipating the data required to produce the expected deliverables
• Coordinate with manufacturing, logistics, operations, and distribution to gather complete and accurate data for input into modeling software.
• Work with project managers and modelers in developing strategic supply chain models, using technical skills to manipulate and analyze large datasets
• Aid the decision making process for the internal team by building results that present both insightful data summaries and clear support for conclusions and recommendations
• Visualize, interpret, report and communicate data findings creatively in various formats and audiences
• Solicit, collect and document user requests and assumptions to define scenario parameters

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in STEM or related field or equivalent experience
• Experience in analyzing and working with large complex sets of data using Microsoft Excel functions
• Strong data manipulation skillset; should be proficient in database tools (e.g., Excel, Access, SQL/MySQL, Alteryx and Tableau)
• A sense of personal ownership and accountability, together with the ability to manage deadlines and internal stakeholder expectations
• Customer and data obsessed, always learning and refining your plan to deliver user insight and maximum business impact
• Experience with network optimization tools is a plus

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

* Conduct research into logistics and sustainment operations, including literature reviews, interviews, and site visits.
* Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of DoD sustainment operations, including application of analytical and simulation models.
* Synthesize findings into actionable recommendations with demonstrable benefits in business performance
* Support and lead projects that re-design or enhance system-support via logistics policies and processes.
* Communicate with clients through written reports and oral presentations.
* Coordinate and staff recommendations with multiple agencies.
* Assist in marketing of consulting services, including market research, teaming arrangements, competitive analysis, and creation of marketing publications.
* Assist in DoD sustainment performance assessment and reporting.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Undergraduate degree required. Degree in engineering, finance, economics, operations research, mathematics, or a related discipline preferred.
* This position requires five (5) or more years' work experience.
* Knowledge and experience with DoD/Army logistics and sustainment operations.
* Strong quantitative skills, including the ability to use spreadsheet, database, and project management software.
* Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and apply domain-specific expertise through on-the-job training and professional development training.
* Superior communication skills, both oral and written.
* Self-directed, detail oriented in completing assigned tasks, able to adapt to changing work efforts and manage impact of shifting priorities.
* Capable of operating at a senior level within the Office of the Secretary of Defense
* Available for occasional travel.
* This position requires an active security clearance at the Top Secret level. You must be a US citizen.

DESIRED SKILLS

* Master's degree or higher in related discipline.
* Working knowledge of Army Sustainment preferred.
* Working knowledge of Foreign Military Sales
* Experience with EUCOM AOR
* Army weapons systems
