Job Summary The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services in Loudoun County is actively seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Passenger Vehicle Operator. This role involves the transportation of clients to and from various centers, as well as assisting clients during the boarding and disembarking process. Program support may encompass participation in a range of activities, both indoors and outdoors, including crafts, exercise, games, and audio-visual presentations. Additionally, the position entails assisting with day trips and providing support to clients in areas such as dressing, toileting, hygiene, meal consumption, and mobility. Furthermore, responsibilities may include setting up furniture for special events, collecting program fees, and conducting safety checks of the facility. We are currently hiring for the following location(s): • Ashburn Senior Center, Ashburn, VA Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Provides scheduled transportation for clients, operates the wheelchair lift, adheres to wheelchair tie-down protocols, and maintains necessary client documentation. • Responsible for the upkeep of the vehicle and its associated records; conduct pre-trip inspections and maintain daily logs; organize routes and schedules; and verify that standard and safety equipment is present in the vehicle and functioning properly. • Coordinates routes and schedules in collaboration with the assistant manager and family members. • Aids members in situations of illness or accidents by applying first aid techniques and following universal safety protocols; ensure that essential equipment is available on the bus for emergencies, including emergency contact information, a first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher. • Provides daily assistance for programs at the Senior Center while fulfilling driving duties, which may include organizing small and large group activities, aiding in program development, supporting special events, assisting with the home-delivered meal initiative, overseeing café operations, and ensuring the maintenance of essential data and records. • Safeguards the confidentiality of both verbal and written information about clients' medical, personal, financial, and other private matters. • It is possible that other essential duties related to the specific role and department may be performed as required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Job Contingencies and Special Requirements Must undergo criminal, credit, and DMV background checks and complete a pre-employment drug screening before hiring. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); requires a CDL (Class C with Passenger endorsement) learner's permit within 3 months and license within 6 months of hire. Must comply with the DOT regulations and Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees. This position is housed in the Operations Section of the Solid Waste Bureau (SWB), which provides recycling, composting and cleanliness services for Arlington County. Employees will be required to operate various types of equipment and vehicles to include but not limited to the following: Pick-up trucks towing a 6-12-foot trailer; Rear-loading refuse collection trucks for litter collection and other programs supported by the Solid Waste Bureau; Small to medium-sized dump trucks; Vacuum leaf collection vehicles; and Micro-equipment such as mini street sweepers. Responsibilities Specific duties include: Preparing and maintaining County-owned or leased equipment, including maintaining equipment cleanliness, performing preventive maintenance and making minor repairs on equipment; Performing litter control, bus shelter cleaning and graffiti removal using hand, pressure washer and vacuum collection methods; Conducting mulch deliveries with a small or medium dump truck; Utilizing a computer and/or tablet to enter data to document daily work completed, pre-and post-trip inspections, and other relevant information; Reading and following a map and using GPS to perform daily functions; Assisting with leaf collection program, snow removal operations, special event services, and collection of trash and recyclables; and Providing information to residents regarding services provided such as mulch deliveries and interacting with other staff from various departments. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Six months of experience operating heavy automotive or related equipment such as dump trucks or rear-loaders; and Must possess a Class B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following: Operating refuse collection equipment and dump trucks; Towing a 6-12-foot trailer with a pick-up truck; Using a tablet to input programmatic data for work purposes; and Performing preventive maintenance and making minor repairs on automotive equipment. Special Requirements: Applicant must possess a class "B" (or "A") Commercial Driver's License at time of application. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of their official driving record.
