POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Mapping Vehicle Operator to collect map data across the South Bay area. The collection of map data involves operating vehicles equipped with a sensor mounted on the roof. This sensor will scan and collect data of the road network and route you are following. Upon completion of collecting data each day, you will transfer the data to an online platform. This data will lead to developing the next generation of digital maps to power mobile applications. Operators will be responsible for equipment preparation, data collection and simple data processing, and overall equipment management in the field before, during and after data collection, including installation of hardware per the guidelines given.
As part of this project we are seeking people to operate and navigate the vehicles around the areas to be mapped in Cupertino and South Bay, CA areas. We are looking for Vehicle Mapping Operators (navigation AND the operation of the technical equipment) who are enthusiastic, friendly and safe. You will be working as part of a larger team so being personable is required. You will be driving public streets and areas, specifically commercial districts and historical sites, mapping a given area including all public streets, highways, and off and on ramps. At times this will require specific areas to be driven multiple times due to poor weather and/or lighting conditions. You should be comfortable working for long periods (approximately 8-10 hours per day) and have experience in operating/navigating in all situations: i.e. cities, freeways, suburban and rural. You should have a working knowledge of GPS and navigation applications. This project will focus on collections in the Cupertino/South Bay, California and surrounding areas - initially as a 'back to base model' (returning to your residence at the end of the work day) before transitioning into travel (i.e. nomadic) mode to northern California areas such as Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. - you MUST be willing to travel in order to be considered for this position

Mapping Operator Responsibilities:
Ensuring the car is operational on a daily basis.
Parking and securing assigned cars at the end of each day.

It can be parked in your private garage or in your personal driveway (the camera equipment will need to be removed each night and taken into your home (it is small) and the vehicle secured).
Understand this job requires more than driving. Drivers may need to help with field tech repairs, take guidance from our teams, take cars for routine maintenance, car washes, picking up equipment from FedEx, etc.

Role Overview:The Autonomous Vehicle Test Operator is responsible for operating and evaluating a self-driving vehicle in autonomous mode, including collecting data and providing feedback, and offering ride hail service to the general public.
Eligibility:
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old, possess a valid CDL driver's license, and have at least three (3) years of experience as a Class C licensed driver to operate Class C vehicles.
Key responsibilities:
Operate/Drive autonomous vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of environmental conditions - driving (some manual driving but primarily monitoring the vehicle's behavior in autonomous mode) and (ii) software monitoring and logging responsibilities and providing verbal feedback/directions about the autonomous vehicles (AV) environment.
Test other aspects of our autonomous vehicles
Complete timely and detailed ride reports for our operations and engineering teams
Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as overnight shifts
Maintain high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle.
Necessary skills:
CDL Driver's License
Proficiency with a laptop and Office apps (i.e., Gmail, Sheets and Docs)
Proficiency using a handheld device/touchscreen smartphone
Must have good attention to detail and be able to quickly and concisely describe their thoughts.
Physical requirements:
Occasional standing, walking, and long periods of sitting.
Use hands to finger; handle or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders.
Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
Must use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Most work is accomplished outdoors in a vehicle.

About the Role
We're seeking attentive and safety-focused Test Drivers / Vehicle Operators to support autonomous vehicle testing and data collection in Mountain View and San Francisco. In this role, you'll operate test vehicles on designated routes, record critical data, and collaborate with engineering teams to advance self-driving technology.
This is a hands-on, full-time position ideal for detail-oriented drivers who want to contribute to the development of next-generation mobility systems.
Key Responsibilities
Safely drive test vehicles on assigned routes for 4-8 hours daily while following all traffic and safety protocols.
Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure readiness.
Operate in-vehicle software and assist with data collection and logging systems.
Document observations, issues, and system anomalies in detail.
Work closely with engineers to support testing, troubleshooting, and performance feedback.
Assist with vehicle logistics, storage, and basic maintenance tasks.
Requirements
Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
No moving violations in the past 12 months and no DUIs or criminal history.
Basic knowledge of vehicles and driving systems.
Comfortable driving for extended periods (4-8 hours daily).
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Must be able to work onsite in both Mountain View and San Francisco.
Flexible availability for AM or PM shifts (Tue-Sat or Sun-Thu).
