Job Summary: The NursePractitioner-Xpand Role practices in a Magnet recognized tertiary academic Children's Hospital with Level One Pediatric Trauma Designation. Practices in collaboration with the supervising physician and performs overlapping medical/surgical procedures for specialty population of patients with critical acuity and/or participates in service coverage needs 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate medical management and coordination of patient care consistent with their educational preparation and according to designated standardized procedures. Performs complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations. Documents subjective and objective data and care in the electronic medical record according to established policies and procedures. Keeps patient, family, and caregiver as applicable, informed regarding plan of care, e.g., hospital course, post-operative plan of care, expected outcomes, follow-up care. Encourages the patient, family and caregiver as applicable, to ask questions and be active participants in their care. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and the exceeding of customer expectations by modeling behavior in the context of institutional values and the empowerment of professional governance of nursing practice. Serves as a preceptor for students and facilitates a meaningful learning experience. Represents nursing as an empowered profession that readily embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Supports and inspires the journey to nursing excellence to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards and ensures compliance with regulations and maintains survey-readiness at all times. Practices within the NP scope of practice pursuant to standardized procedures and follows policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines, standardized procedures and state and federal regulations. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master of Science Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and completion of NP curriculum required. If hired as an NP prior to 2005 then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is acceptable. Minimum three years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting or in a sub-specialty clinic environment required. Minimum one year of experience in area of NP specialty preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have in-depth knowledge of advanced practice nursing, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards, medical staff structure, healthcare law and finance, peer review and legal aspects of care. Able to: demonstrate excellence in bedside practice, manner and nursing professionalism; apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area(s) of specialty. Able to: read; write legibly; communicate in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction. Able to: think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; compose written material; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to: distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license and California NursePractitioner Certificate required (certification pending/in process acceptable). If hired after February, 2021, National certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.

About the Role
As a Neonatal NursePractitioner, you will serve a defined patient population, functioning as an expert clinician, educator, consultant, care coordinator, and advocate. This full-scope role primarily supports the Level III NICU at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno, with opportunities to rotate through:

Nurse staffing ratios: 1:1 or 2:1 for intensive care, 1:3 for intermediate care
Access to pediatric and surgical subspecialists
Valley Children's Hospital - Level IV NICU
The only Regional Level IV NICU in Central California
Care for 1,400+ critically ill and premature newborns annually
25,000 patient days/year across the NICU network
Offers a comprehensive team including neonatologists, therapists, social workers, dietitians, and more

What We're Looking For
Experience
5+ years as an RN or NNP in a NICU setting preferred
New graduate NNPs encouraged to apply
Strong clinical knowledge in assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, and pediatric management preferred

Must complete credentialing at CRMC, Saint Agnes, and Valley Children's Hospital

The Physician Assistant / NursePractitioner (Advanced Practice Practitioner) is responsible for a
defined patient population

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver direct healthcare services to patients, families, and the community, and provide indirect care through guidance of other healthcare professionals.

Participate in both inpatient and outpatient care, including care coordination.
Perform minor procedures and assist in surgical procedures in the OR.
Utilize the medical model to deliver care, operating within the scope of licensure, applicable laws and regulations, and VCH policies.
Be available for on-call duties based on a predetermined schedule or hospital needs.
Collaborate closely with a dedicated team of pediatric neurosurgeons, contributing to comprehensive pediatric neurosurgical care.

Minimum 1 year of related experience
Minimum 5 years increasingly responsible experience which demonstrates professional working knowledge of nursing theory and practice, with competence in physical assessments, different diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute and chronic pediatric problems preferred
