Loras College, a liberal arts college, was founded in 1839 by the Most Rev.
In 1934 it began offering courses in graduate study through a midwestern branch of the Catholic University of America.
The college went through a series of name changes until finally settling on Loras College in 1939.
St Bernard, St Joseph College, Dubuque College and Columbia College), finally adopting its present name during its centennial in 1939.
In 1969 Loras joined Clarke College and the University of Dubuque to form the Tri-College Cooperative Effort, which promotes sharing curriculum and faculty.
Women were first admitted in 1971.
In 1973, the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees were introduced.
2013 marks the 100th anniversary of Keane Hall’s construction.
