Loretto company history timeline

1938

It was 15 years later, at the request of the late George Cardinal Mundelein, the Sisters of Saint Casimir purchased the property on December 10, 1938, the day of the Feast Day of our Lady of Loretto.

1939

After nearly one month of intense renovation and repairs, The Loretto Hospital opened its doors to the public on January 16, 1939 under the administration of the Sisters of Saint Casimir.

1940

The City was incorporated in 1940.

1948

The Loretto Volunteer Fire Department started in 1948 and still proudly serves the City and surrounding area.

1957

By 1957, the school grounds expanded.

1969

The Loretto Lions Club, established in 1969, is also still active in the community.

In 1969, the Sisters of Saint Casimir added a new $6 million wing to the hospital.

1989

In 1989, the Community began a volunteer program for short-term service opportunities that evolved into a yearlong experience known as the Loretto Volunteers, a program which continues today.

1998

Our Lady of Loreto Parish was founded in 1998, the year of the Holy Spirit.

2009

The year 2009 would bring more hope for The Loretto Hospital when local Austin community leaders – with a vested interest in the Loretto Hospital, stepped forward to help.
