What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Computer Engineer to join our team of researchers focused on advancing data-driven solutions in materials science and engineering. Applicants should possess a strong background in data ingestion, processing, and analysis, with experience in developing automation tools and AI applications. Familiarity with metadata extraction, specification generation, and interfacing with materials management systems such as PDMLink is highly desirable. Experience in working with large language models (LLMs), API development, and on-machine inspection tools will be considered a plus but is not required. This position will operate within a collaborative environment that includes cross-functional teams and will necessitate both independent problem-solving skills and effective teamwork and mentorship. On any given day, you may be called on to: * Write and optimize parsing scripts for various test data formats to ensure efficient data ingestion. * Parse and extract relevant information from engineering specifications for integration into Granta. * Develop and maintain scripts for automating metadata retrieval from engineering artifacts. * Interface with PDMLink to retrieve and analyze data from global materials lists. * Participate in the development and integration of AI agent interfaces with on-machine inspection tools (e.g., Peregrine). * Assist in the development of APIs for the lakehouse project, ensuring compatibility with existing systems and tools. * Engage in team meetings to discuss project progress, challenges, and collaborative solutions. * Document processes, findings, and code to maintain clear communication and knowledge sharing within the team. * Collaborate with team members to enhance capabilities for pulling "where-used" information across various sites. Our team provides a critical interface with the NNSA and engineering stakeholders through its leadership of the Aging & Lifetimes and At-Risk Materials programs enabling informed engineering design decisions. We develop scalable, FAIR data management solutions to empower AI/ML research, assess material compatibility, manage the Granta data based, its material records, and new material data ingestion, and utilize and develop GenAI models for finding novel, application specific materials. This department has a strong record of delivering critical materials information to broad internal and external stakeholders that improves SNLs and the broader Nuclear Security Enterprises (NSE) mission delivery.
