What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Postdoctoral Appointee to support one or more large DOE Gen3 projects focused on rapidly designing, modeling, building, and testing components and systems to utilize heat from concentrated sunlight for electricity generation, decarbonized industrial processes, and the creation of solar fuels. Expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics is desirable, along with test design for commissioning and operations of thermal energy storage systems. Projects could include optimization of thermal energy storage systems, integration of large-scale components, solar reactor/receivers, particle-based systems, or molten salt-based systems. Use your passion and creativity to devise cutting edge engineering solutions alongside a multi-disciplinary renewable energy team of expert scientists and engineers. Your work, centered on concentrating solar applications could ultimately include a span of activities we do for other mission areas at the Labs.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Independently conduct and deliver your own R&D activities or projects under leadership of senior staff; these activities and projects may be theoretical, computational and/or experimental and will often require working in teams that can include partners from other institutions
+ Work with Sandia's technology transfer and licensing professionals to move successful R&D from the Labs to industry

Qualifications We Require:

Qualifications We Desire:
+ Prior academic or professional experience in particle-based concentrating solar components and systems including heliostats, particle heat exchangers, particle receivers, particle lifts

Sandia Geomechanics Department is seeking a research scientist (R&D S&E Geosciences Engineer-Experienced) to support computation geomechanics modeling and/or experimental geomechanics testing within our geomechanics laboratory. The selected candidate will be expected to support a wide variety of national security projects such as nuclear non-proliferation, energy security and climate security.
