    **What You Will Do** **This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 3/ Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.** **The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division (PIE-DO) of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facility. PIE-DO is responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program on Division projects. The program elements include processes, standards, training, and qualifications that are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility. They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner. The selected candidate will support our Intall team.** **Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 3 ($125,200 - $211,300)** **The Project Engineer 3 performs as the lead technical representative for engineering activities related to the planning, design, execution, and closeout of projects. They will ead and manage the execution, closeout, and turnover of projects with an integrated project team (IPT) that includes both customers, stakeholders, subject matter experts and others. The Project Engineer 3 will manage engineering designs as they evolve throughout execution, which may be performed by internal and/or external engineering design teams. They will provide technical engineering support to field execution and closeout team members to ensure installation compliance. The Project Engineer 3 facilitates design changes throughout execution, and is ultimately responsible for the closeout and turnover of the completed project. The position is field oriented and provides valuable experience interfacing with design implementation challenges for complex projects. Specific responsibilities will include:** + Manage technical requirements for construction, including coordinating designer-constructor interfaces, design changes, submittal reviews, inspection documentation, and request for information (RFI), field change requests (FCR), commissioning, and turnover processes. + Work with LANL Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) representatives and Subject Matter Experts (SME) for identification and resolution of issues within these areas. + Plan and forecast project engineering staffing needs. + Review engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluate variances and develop corrective action when needed. + Adhere to and enforce the policies, programs, procedures, and practices with the requirements of the LANL Conduct of Engineering program. + Mentor junior project engineers and provide oversight of their work. + Participate in process improvement initiatives. + External design execution may require management of the contract. **Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 4 ($150,300 - $260,800)** + In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the level 4 Project Engineer is required to have proven leadership experience. **\#ShiftWork** **What You Need** **Minimum Job Requirements:** + Experience working with design and construction contracts. + Experience working under a conduct of engineering program, e.g., the LANL COE program, or similar. + Familiarity with cost engineering functions, cost estimating, cost control, and variance analysis. + Aptitude to become a certified Control Account Manager (CAM), under the Earned Value Management System (EVMS). + Proven experience in collaborative problem solving, such as with SMEs, construction personnel and peers. + Experience working with industry codes and standards such as NEC, IBC, ASME, NFPA, etc. + Experience working with national quality requirements standards such as ASME NQA-1, ISO 9000, etc. + Experience effectively communicating engineering solutions both verbally and in writing to supervisors, peers, and other organizations. + Desktop automation skills (MS Office Suite). **Additional Job Requirements for Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 4:** + In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: + Advance knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices. + Experience in a senior engineering role implementing, overseeing, or assessing engineering activities. + Proven leadership experience. **Training/Certifications:** Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable. **Education/Experience at lower level:** Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable. **Education/Experience at higher level:** Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. While this position is primarily modeling, and simulation based a candidate would be expected to interact with multiple experimental staff and develop a solid understanding of ion beam implantation and irradiation capabilities at the IBL to further understand the radiation induced defects and characterization. What Your Job Will Be Like: The Radiation-Solid Interactions Department at Sandia National Laboratories, which operates the Ion Beam Laboratory (IBL), is seeking a senior physicist with a strong interest and expertise in the modeling of radiation induced defects in semiconductor materials and devices. The successful candidate will explore development and use of computational simulations, including a Sandia developed 1D Experimental Physics Code (XPD), clustering of electrically active defects in state-of-the-art semiconductor devices and simulation of ion beam implantation and irradiation. Current projects include: + 1D Experimental Physics Code (XPD): Investigating the effects of radiation induced electrically active defects on semiconductor materials and devices using an atomistic based drift diffusion model that is defect aware. + Clustering of Defects: Exploring the effects of radiation induced defects on state-of-the-art semiconductor devices including FINFET and GAAFET geometries. + Ion Beam Implantation and Irradiation: Explore the effects of ion irradiation and implantation using binary collision approximate codes including SRIM and Marlowe. While this position is primarily modeling, and simulation based a candidate would be expected to interact with multiple experimental staff and develop a solid understanding of ion beam implantation and irradiation capabilities at the IBL to further understand the radiation induced defects and characterization. Additionally, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, engaging with both internal and external at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop and Utilize Computational simulations of radiation effects in semiconductor devices, including 1D Experimental Physics Codes (XPD) and commercial TCAD software: We routinely use the XPD code to simulate the effects of radiation on a wide variety of materials and devices including Si, GaAs and GaN including diodes, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs), high voltage diodes (HV) and high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs). XPD is an in-house developed defect aware drift-diffusion code that outputs a time dependent carrier flow based on capture and emission of carriers by defects and evolution of defects by diffusion and reactions, i.e. annealing. + Develop and Utilize Binary Collision Codes (BCC) for Ion Implantation and Irradiation Studies: We use BCC codes SRIM and Marlowe, to explore the effects of ion beam implantation and irradiation.
