He also serves on the board and executive committee of the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufactures (AFPM), the board of the American Petroleum Institute (API), and the board of the Greater Houston Partnership. Coffman received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Brigham Young University in 1982, and a Master of Business Administration from Utah State University in 1983. Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force and active Utah Air National Guard from 1975 to 1983.
