The Senior Manager of Volunteer & Community Engagement is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting the vision, structure, and performance of Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children's (LuskinOIC) volunteer and community engagement enterprise. This role requires a seasoned professional with demonstrated experience leading complex volunteer programs, managing teams, developing systems, and operating with a high degree of autonomy and judgment in a healthcare or large nonprofit environment.
This position owns the full lifecycle of volunteer and community engagement strategy-from program design and risk management to execution, evaluation, and continuous improvement. The role serves as the Foundation's subject-matter expert on volunteer services, community partnerships, and engagement compliance, and acts as the primary liaison to internal hospital leadership, Foundation leadership, external partners, and support groups.
The Senior Manager is accountable for building scalable, compliant, and outcomes-driven volunteer programs that align with LuskinOIC's mission, operational realities, and long-term institutional priorities. This role supervises staff, manages significant budgets, oversees high-risk and high-visibility programs, and provides leadership across all LuskinOIC campuses and signature events.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight
Develop and execute a multi-year strategy for volunteer and community engagement that aligns with Foundation goals, hospital operations, and patient experience priorities.
Standardize volunteer programs, policies, onboarding, and training across all LuskinOIC sites to ensure consistency, compliance, and quality.
Serve as the Foundation's lead authority on volunteer services, community partnerships, and support group engagement.
Establish KPIs, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to track volunteer hours, engagement outcomes, risk metrics, and program impact.
Management & Supervision
Directly supervise and mentor professional staff, including the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator Receptionists / Welcome Desk staff; provide clear performance expectations, coaching, and accountability.
Oversee volunteers, interns, students, and committee leadership, ensuring appropriate supervision, role clarity, and adherence to institutional policies.
Partner closely with HR, Compliance, Risk Management, and Hospital Operations to ensure volunteer programs meet all regulatory and institutional standards.
Operations, Compliance & Risk Management
Own volunteer onboarding systems, including background checks, health clearances (e.g., TB), HIPAA training, role authorization, and documentation tracking.
Ensure compliance with hospital, UCLA Health, and legal requirements related to volunteers, minors, international programs, and patient-facing activities.
Proactively identify and mitigate operational, reputational, and safety risks related to volunteer and community engagement activities.
Serve as escalation point for complex volunteer issues, incidents, or sensitive situations.
Community & Institutional Partnerships
Lead high-level relationships with key partners and programs, including Orthopaedic Medical Magnet High School (OMMHS), A Place Called Home (APCH), Bonter Scholarship Program, Educate2Elevate, Summer Internship Program, and support groups.
Represent LuskinOIC with external partners, universities, corporate groups, and community organizations.
Oversee volunteer-related peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives and engagement campaigns in partnership with the Foundation/Development team.
Support Group & Auxiliary Relations (New Responsibility)
Serve as the senior-level liaison to LuskinOIC's long-standing support groups and auxiliary organizations, stewarding relationships that have been affiliated with the institution for many years.
Represent LuskinOIC with professionalism, diplomacy, and authority in meetings and ongoing interactions with support group leadership, including Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, and other elected officers.
Provide strategic guidance, communication, and partnership oversight to ensure support group activities, events, and fundraising efforts align with LuskinOIC's mission, policies, and institutional priorities.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with adult-only groups (e.g., seniors) as well as family-based groups (mother/daughter, mother/son, and similar auxiliaries) that support LuskinOIC through both volunteer service and philanthropic contributions.
Act as the primary point of escalation and resolution for complex, sensitive, or high-visibility matters involving support groups.
Partner with Foundation leadership to steward these relationships with an emphasis on long-term engagement, respect for legacy, and sustainable growth of both volunteerism and financial support.
Ensure support group leaders feel informed, valued, and appropriately connected to LuskinOIC leadership while maintaining clear boundaries, governance standards, and institutional accountability.
Events & Signature Programs
Provide executive-level oversight of volunteer strategy and execution for LuskinOIC signature events, including Toys & Joy, Ozzie's Spooktacular, Golf Tournament, Gala, and community drives.
Collaborate with the Events team to ensure volunteers are appropriately recruited, trained, scheduled, and supported.
Lead planning and execution of volunteer recognition and stewardship initiatives.
Budgeting & Resource Management
Develop and manage departmental budgets for volunteer and community engagement programs.
Oversee in-kind donation drives, including procurement, inventory management, reporting, and stewardship.
Ensure responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with Foundation financial controls.
Data, Systems & Reporting
Oversee accurate entry and management of volunteer data in Raiser's Edge and related systems.
Produce reports and analysis for Foundation leadership, auditors, and institutional stakeholders. Use data to inform strategic decisions, staffing models, and program improvements.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND SUCCESS INDICATORS:
Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional discretion and ethical behavior.

Must be willing to work evenings/weekends as needed and travel to multiple LuskinOIC site locations in the performance of job functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and or equivalent of combined education and experiences is required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit operations, or healthcare administration.
Demonstrated management experience, including direct supervision of staff and ownership of complex programs.
Experience operating in a healthcare, hospital, academic medical center, or similarly regulated environment strongly preferred.
Proven ability to design systems, lead change, and manage risk.
Strong executive communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
Experience managing budgets and cross-functional initiatives.
Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or comparable CRM systems.
Written and verbal fluency in English required and also in Spanish preferred.

Uses radiation conservatively and closely adhere to the principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) as set forth by the California department of public health.
Responsible for recording occupational radiation exposure through the use of dosimetry devices.
Ensures all images are promptly and correctly transferred to PACS and kept in the patient's medical record.
Protects patient privacy and follow the guidelines of HIPPA.
Ensures all machines and accessory equipment are handled with care and are routinely cleaned and serviced.
Provides guidance to student interns from the medical imaging program at Charles R. Drew University who rotate through every semester. Supervises student interactions with patients and approves all images before being sent to PACS.
Creates a calm and soothing environment for both patients and parents by clearly explaining procedures and the necessity for use of radiation.
Applies a variety of cast and splints, works efficiently with plaster or fiberglass depending on doctor's preference;
Prepares the exam room with appropriate equipment and perform all infection control processes.
Explains procedures and instructs patients and their families in the care of cast, strappings and dressings and reassures patients when removing cast with cast cutters or other such devices.
Verifies patient demographics such as name, DOB, site of injury, and side of injury prior to beginning exam. Females of childbearing age must be screened for possible pregnancy prior to being exposed to ionizing radiation.
Interpret doctors' orders and follow instructions like xip/xop, weight bearing, with ruler, with blocks, bending etc.
Assists with the full range of fluoroscopic procedures performed at OIC i.e. fracture reductions, cast wedging, pain management injections, fluid aspirations and OR.
Responsible for scheduling and billing of all radiologic exams performed when working independently.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND SUCCESS INDICATORS
Ability to adapt all OIC's clinical care settings such as urgent care, follow-up clinic, sports medicine, general orthopedics, and outpatient surgery.
Knowledge of protocols for different clinics and doctors as well as perform views that correspond to specific pathologies.
Ability to manage patient flow, greet patients and effectively position for visualization of needed anatomy as well as use the appropriate markers and annotations.
Must maintain current CRT, CRT FLUORO, and ARRT licensure as well as BLS\CPR.
Proficient in casting/splinting techniques using plaster or fiberglass as ordered by the doctor.
Ability to build and maintain good rapport with nurses and doctors in contributing to the overall OIC team and provide patients with the best care from start to finish.
Ability to float between departments and staff urgent care on weekends and holidays.

Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Patient Care Services is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating nursing care given by a designated healthcare team. Summary
Reporting to the Director of Imaging Services and/or designee, the Diagnostic Imaging Technologist is responsible for radiological care to patients of all ages, for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomical and physiologic disorders using ionizing radiation. Must have working knowledge of conventional Radiology. Must be able to operate all X-ray equipment and PACS. Prepares exam room, equipment, supplies and medications for patient's procedures and is responsible for patient education. Proven competency in addition to conventional radiography, working knowledge in at least one other area CT, MRI, or Interventional Radiology if applicable competencies are met. May be required to take call.
