The newly renovated Los Angeles Southwest College is ideal for residents
of South Los Angeles who either wish to get career training or eventually
transfer to a UC or Cal State school. Located on Imperial Highway in Los Angeles, Southwest is easily accessed
from such towns as Hawthorne, Inglewood and Norwalk. The occupational certificate at Southwest is the most time and
cost-efficient path to a career. Usually taking an average of six months
to complete, these certificates prepare students for careers as Real
Estate Agents, Receptionists and Speech Therapy Assistants, among others. Professional associate's degrees are awarded in such areas as
Administration of Justice, Business, Child Development and Information
Technology. There are also a host of associate's degree programs and courses in the
Liberal Arts, Humanities, Sciences and Fine Arts. Part of the Los Angeles Community College district, Southwest's programs
are designed to allow students to transfer with ease to such schools as
UCLA and Cal State L.A. Since Southwest has undergone major renovations in recent years, it
offers a pleasant and stimulating environment for students when they're
not in class. Some examples are a new performing arts complex, as well as
a new stadium, bookstore and student services center. With a significantly lower tuition for California residents, Southwest is
accessible in a way that most four-year schools are not. However, many
students still require additional assistance. For this reason loans,
grants, work-study and scholarships are offered to those who qualify.
Tuition waiver programs are also available to certain populations
including veterans.Los Angeles Southwest College is a well-established organization. It was founded way back in 1967.
