In 1949, he advised his father to invest in paving equipment, and the Louisville Paving Company was born.
By 1959, Jack inspired his younger brother, Bill Dougherty, to join the rapidly thriving business.
When natural gas took over coal in 1967, the Doughertys adapted immediately, switching their full focus to asphalt paving.
Jack’s son, John, who joined the company in 1978, became more involved in the Company’s plants and equipment as the decade progressed.
He also founded the company’s Site Division in 1986 with the goal of becoming a one-stop shop for developers.
His brother, Tom Wood, started Pace Contracting in 1997 and has been President since its inception.
