Lower Columbia College company history timeline

1934

Lower Columbia College was established in 1934 as Lower Columbia Junior College.

1936

The first class to graduate with an Associate degree was in 1936; the class consisted of seven students.

1942

In 1942, twenty-six acres were purchased from the Longview Company to build a campus.

1948

In 1948, the college received its first accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

1949

The Moose Hall continued to house classes until the 1949 Olympia earthquake, when damage caused the building to be condemned.

1950

In 1950, construction began on Old Main, LCC's first permanent building.

1961

Lower Columbia Junior College became part of the Longview School District and changed from a junior college to a community college in 1961.

1967

In 1967 it joined the state-supported community college system.

2003

Allan Thompson Library plus 1 other with 41,991 books, 5,887 microform titles, 217 serials, 3,376 audiovisual materials, and an OPAC. Operations spending 2003-04: $349,791.
