LOWRY PARK ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF TAMPA company history timeline

1982

The Lowry Park Zoo Association was formed in 1982, at the suggestion of the Tampa Parks Department, Mayor Bob Martinez, and a group of private citizens.

The Tampa Catholic High School Dancerettes on the Rainbow Bridge to Fairyland, 1982.

1984

In 1984 the Zoo Board of Directors developed a comprehensive, 24-acre zoo master plan.

1985

April 12, 1985 Moving day at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa went pretty smoothly Friday.

1987

1990

1992

By February of 1992 the newly renovated park consisted of the zoo, amusement park, Fun Forest with Fairyland walk, and new Children's Museum (formerly Safety Village) adjacent to it.

1996

2006

For the fiscal year ending September 2006, and for the first time in the Zoo’s history, ZooTampa exceeded one million visitors.

2008

In 2008, construction was completed on an annex that provides additional classrooms for expanding youth/teen programs and office space.

2014

2018

The most recent being in 2018 when the zoo rebranded as ZooTampa at Lowry Park to emphasize its connections to Tampa and the region along with its progress.
