IV admixture preparation and compounding, including chemotherapy
Order, receive and stock pharmacy medications and supplies

Maintains pharmacy distributive systems and operations, including all equipment and technology. Actively review automation, equipment, and technology within responsible areas for appropriate work performance, accuracy, and reliability. Implement appropriate downtime procedures when needed including communication with appropriate external vendors. Essential Job Functions

Rotates through all work areas of the pharmacy department, works as a team player to achieve pharmaceutical care for the patient, fills, first doses, restocks and patient specific medications from the carousels, performs monthly nursing unit, clinic and pharmacy area inspections as directed, maintains work areas (IV Room, UD Area, Manufacturing area, store rooms, pharmacy satellites) by restocking and cleaning as needed, answers phone calls.
Triages phone communication appropriately and according to policy, collects quality assurance data and maintains workload records as required, performs other patient and/or drug related duties within the legal scope of their licensure as assigned by the pharmacist and/or supervisor.
Prepares medications and supplies for dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist including: prepackaging bulk medications byfilling unit dose-specific syringes and vials of medications for both adult and pediatric patients, compounded oral suspensions and Grade One mouthwash. Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP approved pharmacy technician vocational course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or at the University of Chicago. Graduates of foreign pharmacy programs are also eligible for consideration

Essential Job Functions

Adds patient specific and re-stock medications to the Omnicell machines located in patient care areas, except the sterile corridor of surgery. Returns discontinued and outdated medications from the Omnicells to the Pharmacy.
Replaces CPR cart medications following Dr. Cart events. Transfers patient specific medications from the Omnicell on the discharged unit to the Omnicell on the unit to which the patient has been transferred.
Rotates through all work areas of the pharmacy department, works as a team player to achieve pharmaceutical care for the patient, fills, first doses, restocks and patient specific medications from the carousels, performs monthly nursing unit, clinic and pharmacy area inspections as directed, maintains work areas (IV Room, UD Area, Manufacturing area, store rooms, pharmacy satellites) by restocking and cleaning as needed, answers phone calls.
Triages phone communication appropriately and according to policy, collects quality assurance data and maintains workload records as required, performs other patient and/or drug related duties within the legal scope of their licensure as assigned by the pharmacist and/or supervisor.

Required Qualifications
Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or Completion of an ASHP approved pharmacy technician vocational course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or at the University of Chicago. Graduates of foreign pharmacy programs are also eligible for consideration
Ability to work as a team player to accomplish optimal patient care by providing superior pharmaceutical services
Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff

* Calculates, measures, and compounds medications in accordance with USP 795, USP 797, USP 800, and/or other established practices and policies; may include non-sterile compounding, sterile compounding, and hazardous medication compounding.

In this role, the Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator, or AMAC, performs necessary functions to ensure optimal reimbursement for high cost, take home medications for patients receiving care in UCMC ambulatory clinics. Other areas of responsibility include pre-screening patients for viable payment sources, managing reimbursement issues associated with high cost take-home medications, identifying opportunities for improving reimbursement from payers, compiling reports for contract optimization, completing the necessary paperwork for prior authorizations, and conducting retrospective utilization reviews on cases of payment denials or insufficient reimbursement
Essential Job Functions:
Improve patient service experience and maximize UCMC pharmacy revenue through provision of prior authorization services on behalf of clinics for select high cost medications.
Conduct patient insurance, benefits and financial investigation and verification by directly communicating with patients. Complete prior authorization forms, negotiate authorization status with insurers, track status of prescription approval and when necessary, alert clinical pharmacists of denials or nonresponse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* One (1) year of full-time work experience in a hospital as a Pharmacy Technician, is required.
