C. Ensures fluids are maintained at a safe temperature.
D. Ensures instrumentation is cleaned at point of use, restrung, and sprayed with enzymatic cleaner.
2. Performs preoperative preparation of patients, including skin preparation, draping and positioning patients for procedures in accordance with department procedures and protocols, as needed.
A. Matches preference cards [PLs] to correct scheduled cases and work with assigned RN to update PLs working with individual surgeons and surgical services.
3. Hands instruments to the surgeon as requested and/or required, preparing suture material for use, and assisting with gowning and gloving of surgical team in accordance with departmental protocols.
4. Performs duties associated with basic patient care, including picking-up blood, delivering specimens to clinical laboratories, performing room turnover between cases, escorting patients when assigned and checking emergency carts for needed supplies. Transports patients and runs errands as directed by RN.
5. Prepares supplies for sterilization including washing and wrapping instruments.
6. Ensures appropriate sterilization methods are used with various implants, instruments and supplies using standardized sterilized indicators.
7. Assists the RN as requested in ensuring that instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and specialty items are ordered, stored, and ready for use when required.
8. Limits supply and instrument costs through good inventory control. Evaluates new products and provides feedback. Aides process to improve cost containment and decrease waste in the room.
9. Orientates new Surgical Technologists by explaining department policies and procedures.
10. Assists in the development of policies, procedures and protocols at the department levels
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

- VOCATIONAL Job Number 8600043158 Start Date Open Date Closing Date Plans and implements an instructional program in Career Technology Education (CTE) and provides related educational services for students in a skills-based learning environment. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. Carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities and provides instructional and leadership services that prepares students with the related academic, critical thinking, computer technology, workplace readiness and technical skills essential to pursuing careers in health occupations, including CPR/First Aid. Prepares students to sit for and successfully pass the aligned industry certification exam including the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Serves as a CTE classroom teacher in a high school (grades 9 through 12). Classes taught may be single grade or multi grade level, are most often subject oriented, but may be skill or specialty focused. Supervises classroom activities to include laboratory experiences. Some positions require working off-site or in a combination of off-site and classroom settings. Provides supervision and clinical evaluation of students at the clinical training site. Performs duties within a team or department setting but might work independently in a unique teaching specialty. Some positions may be assigned to reading or technology labs. Other positions may be assigned to science labs or individual arts/technology education labs where the use of chemicals and machinery necessitates a higher level of monitoring to prevent accidental injury to students. Overview
Under direct supervision performs delegated patient care functions assisting in surgical procedures and in the preparation of supplies and equipment in an operating room.
Key Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Assists in the preparation of the operating room and in the selection of surgical instruments and equipment by reviewing the surgeon preference list and conferring with the circulating nurse to gather appropriate equipment.
A. Counts needles, sponges and instruments.
B. Ensures medications on the sterile field are properly labeled.
C. Ensures fluids are maintained at a safe temperature.
D. Ensures instrumentation is cleaned at point of use, restrung, and sprayed with enzymatic cleaner.
2. Performs preoperative preparation of patients, including skin preparation, draping and positioning patients for procedures in accordance with department procedures and protocols, as needed.
3. Hands instruments to the surgeon as requested and/or required, preparing suture material for use, and assisting with gowning and gloving of surgical team in accordance with departmental protocols.
4. Performs related duties associated with basic patient care, including picking-up blood, delivering specimens to clinical laboratories, performing room turnover between cases, escorting patients when assigned and checking emergency carts for needed supplies. Transports patients and runs errands as directed by RN.
5. Prepares supplies for sterilization including washing and wrapping instruments.
6. Assesses the environmental needs of the area and recommends and/or initiates appropriate action.
7. Orientates new Surgical Technologists by explaining department policies and procedures.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary
As members of our perioperative team, Surgical Technologists perform the operating room technician and scrub tech job for various surgical procedures. In addition to these tasks, we rely on our surgical technologists to assist in intraoperative and postoperative responsibilities.
Job Description:
Performs technical skills related to interoperative patient care. Assigned to perform the scrub role in various surgical procedures and also performs routine unit tasks.
Provide emergency care measures as appropriate, and assist in meeting the patient's emotional needs. Follows universal precautions, safe handling guidelines, and all other infection control standards.

The ST contributes to organizational effectiveness and demonstrates career growth and development. The position is located at the JCSMI Sports Med Outpatient Surgery Center, 2835 Fred Taylor Drive. Worked hours vary based on business need. Late coverage is assigned on a rotating basis.
